The first one was going to be a quick mod. Initially I was just going to give the outside of the intakes a pit of spit and polish but when I felt around at the port intakes it turned in to a couple of hours of port matching and polishing - but well worth it... Much better on idle and has to help performance....

Next one - As I run Raasks that are quite low slung the stock stand arm stuck at like the proverbial dogs ...... Probably most pipe changes will affect how this arm sits... so out with the grinder and lopped the arm off then flicked through the toolbox and found an old battery terminal connector a whip of black paint and jobs right - It looks a bit crude when it is down but is totally out of site when it is up...
Now neatened up

Finally - sorry Mr Jenks for this one but we just canny get your parts downunder. I had a bit of 10mm x 1mm aluminum tube laying around and one 60mm x6mm bolt quick check nice fit... So whipped down to the hardware store and for $2 picked up a couple more bolts. quick hit with the dremel, then found a nice snug fitting washer that could I stuck in the vice and screw the it all together 'viola' extended seat bolts.... I have since had the dremel and polishing wheel going again and removed the writing off the back of the bolt.

Blackjack,
I love seeing these quick, lost cost mods. Amazing how much you can save with a little bit of thinking.

Blackjack - good stuff!

Something about the Bonnie has a way of inspiring the tweaker within...
once begun, no telling to what madness that inspiration may lead... :-D

Cheers & keep up the good work!

I particularly like the extended seat bolts. Very sano. Please expand on your intake manifold mods. Were there significant obstructions?

sheepdog - I have knocked this off from another site - it explains it better than I could.... Hope Mike doesn't mind...

'This was the scenario yesterday as well. While I had the carbs off, I stuck my finger into the intake runner to see how well the mating parts match up flow-wise. The answer is that they don't. There were big discrepancies between the shape of the intake port in the head and the shape of the intake runner port.

In between the head and the intake runner and the head, there is a heat insulating spacer. The transition between these three components is less than satisfactory, with sharp corners, and the spacer protruding into the airflow path.

So I took it upon myself to spend a couple of hours to blend the internal surfaces of these components, leaving the intake port alone of course.

THE RESULTS-

Smoother idle, improved cold starting, and more top end "grunt" as verified by seat of the pants dyno. Overall, a marked improvement in engine behaviour, with the engine seeming so much smoother from 3000 RPM up'.

I reckon a took a good couple of mm out of the intake manifold - It is almost as if the manifold is cross fitted with another model? And the casting and finish inside is a lot worse than the outside - now it is mirror finish inside and no virtually lips between the 3 parts improving volume and flow

just to add to this you don't need to take the carbs off to do the intakes you can get them off and on just by undoing the boot and the 2 bolts on to the intake on the head.

Get the insulator sized up and matched first with the intake port and then use this as your guide for the intake runner.

I did take some measurements with the electronic verniers as a guide as I went for a post but forgot them - sorry

oh and blackjack, your intake boots are on upside down. your carbs should droop down, not up, it will affect your floats.

Thanks Sweat,
I will look at that - I have read that on here before but when I was putting it back together made sure I put it back as it came off - was concerned it wasn't right, so I will go play.....
