So can you use tubeless tires on the scrambler rims, or do you have to run tubes regardless?
You have to run tubes, unless you figure out a sure way to seal the spoke holes in the rim. Maybe Rodburner could weld a steel strip around the interior of the rim, but bear in mind, reducing the "drop center" depth of the rim will make it tougher to change tires.

The michelin's and I believe the metzler's as well are rated by the manufacturer to run with or without tubes.

I went with Anakees on my Scrambler. Amazing difference.

I was never confident in tight corners with the stock knobblies, but with the Anakees, it loves to lean over.

I considered the Tourances as well, just decided I liked the look of the Anakees a bit more.

There is a place here in So Cal called Wheel Works that can seal the rims to allow use of tubeless tires. Here is a linky for a magazine article about it. Costs about $60/rim. I've been thinking about getting it done.
