I'm hoping to find a fellow Bonnie owner close to me that is a good wrench and is willing to help out a newbie. I want to make some mods to my Bonnie, but I don't want to go it alone in case I get in over my head. Problem is, where I live there aren't too many motorcycle enthusiasts and zero Triumph owners other than myself.

So I'll cut to the chase...I want to remove the EVLS, AI, do a airbox mod, and re-jet. I'm too chicken to do it myself, and my Bonnie is also my daily driver and I don't want to walk to work if I screw things up!

Is there anyone in the Barstow/Victorville/San Bernardino area that is willing to help me with these mods? I know the protocol and I will bring PLENTY of beer and a willing/positive attitude! Honestly, I prefer to do all the work while you bark orders as long as I don't end up mowing your yard.

Reply on this post or send me an email. Thanks!!!

Cheers!

I hope you find some help, Airboss, but it's not too bad a project to tackle for those who are mechanically inept. I'm speaking from experience here. If you find someone, great. If not, let us know and we'll give you some tips.

Believe me, if I can do it anyone can.

I go to Apple Valley to see family, but I live in Bakerfield. I can help when I am in the area.

Barstow or Victorville ? You are right about the lack of Triumphs in that area...

Doug Douglas in San Bernadino seems to be a reasonable dealer if you have any questions..

I'm in LA, but I can be of support.

I would suggest listing what you plan on doing, and buying the jets recommended. While you are there, buy the next two higher and lower sizes of mains, and the next 1 up and down for the pilots. That way you will have them when you take the bike apart. Tuning is constant adjusting until you find what works, and every bike is just slightly different.

Hey Airboss;
I live in Big Bear and occasionally get down to the Victor Valley. There are three or four of us with 06 790's or 865's in Big Bear, although I think I'm the only one who's pulled the airbox. It was a two-day project for me, because I'm slow and have to read everything two or three times before I'm comfortable diving in, and also because I tend to clean the ***** out of everything I take off the bike.

I'd suggest you have the following items on hand before you get started (based on my experience a couple weeks ago).

1. NARK
2. Pipes
3. Main Jets (stock is 110 - I went with 130's but I'm not done experimenting there yet). I'd suggest 120's, 125's, 130's, and 135's, but I'm not sure what'll be right for you at 3000 feet.
4. Pilot Jets (I think mostly for fine tuning). I never installed the 42's or the thrux needles I picked up
5. Carb screw replacement kit (newbonneville.com) - I'd have been screwed without them.
6. Needlenose vise grips (see item 5) - for when you strip the inside screw (made of plumber's putty, I think). 3mm hex wrench run's the replacements back in correctly.
7. Jenk's Bolts Tuning Notes (available online from Jenks as a free download)

Assume you've got a jack, and reasonable array of tools (24 mm and 19 mm box wrenches for the rear wheel pull, torque wrench, etc)?

I'm pretty limited on time, but give me enough notice and I'll try to set aside a couple hours on a weekend for the reassembly. Also, I make no promises on tuning - I just replaced my mains and off I went, still getting around 50 mpg.

jhoyt@mscomm.com

BTW - the AI takes about 20 minutes to pull, and you can do that way ahead of time - very simple.

A good start will be getting the Haynes (or Triumph) shop manual for the bike and the AI kit.

I put in the AI kit last week, it involves removing the seat/tank and is pretty straightforward.

Some of the dealers in CA. won't tune, or touch a modified Triumph as I found out talking to Wilsons in Fresno today. They are afraid of the EPA cops. ~T~
