my norman hyde togas....finally are coming. i'm going to install.

i found out the silencers i have installed already are the TOR's. will i need to rejet? below is what the former owner told me:

The silencers are not stock, they are the
"Triumph Off Road" aka "TOR" silencers. I bought
them already installed on the bike--it was a demo
with the TOR silencers and performance jet kit.
You could prolly get the Norman Hyde pipes and
not have to worry right away about rejetting.
But, yeah, already comes with a bit of extra
performace over the stock setup. I hear the
Hyde's offer a bigger increase in power... and
sound a bunch better/louder.

what do some of you guys think? and how will i know if i need to?

thanks

suss out the recommended jets for the set-up you are going to have. pull the float bowls to see what jets you have and to install the new ones.
my guess is that the stock jets may still be in it, if you have a 865, because they will run ok like that. If you have a 790 it may have 115 or 120 main jets. My guess is the Hydes will call for 125 -130 mains.
the fun is just beginning

Have you opened up the intake, as in either Uni or K&N air filter? If not, you should do this at the same time, otherwise the increase in fuel flow from the jetting you do for the Hydes won't be matched by an increase in air and you could end up pretty rich and boggy. I've got the Hydes on an 05 T100, and they sound great. Check the Jenks Guide for an idea of what you tuning should be.

Jenks guide is really helpful. However, it seems that most are running much larger mains than what is called for in the guide. At least on most of the posts I've read. Good luck.

thanks guys. i'll try all that's been recommended. i got the jenks booklet on order and a haynes manual in hand.

the place i bought the silencers from recommends changing from a 110 main jet to a 114. then of course the only thing close that they offer is 115. will that be a problem at all if i go with 115s? i'm obviously a novice at all of this but am hopeful i won't screw this all up. am i getting in over my head and should i just bring it to a shop?

Not to worry. 115's are fine, and its easier to do than it seems. If you run into trouble, we will always be here to tell you where you went wrong :hihi:

thanks to you all! i'm going to give this a go in a week or so. i hope you've got the time to hand guide me through all this. ha. first off, can you guys recommend a manometer for me? also, i bought some silicone sealant for the pipes to attach to the downpipes. it says to use about 4cc's of it in the haynes manual. my question though is this: on the tube i bought (G&E gasket and seal silicone) it says not for surfaces that exceed 400 degrees. will that be a problem?

nice, thanks. i'll look into it. i spoke with my local dealership and they only carry 110 and 120 mainjets (and then some other higher ones). can i get away with using 120's?

I think the 120s will be a bit rich unless you are also opening up the intake side with something like a K&N air filter and possibly removing the snorkel and putting on a bellmouth. If you open up the end (exhaust), you need to open up the beginning (main jet and air intake). Just order the jets from NewBonnieville.com. While you're at it order the D tool for adjusting you idle mix (pilot) screw. You need the D tool to do that adjustment. You also really need to get the replacement socket head carb bolts. There is no point going to the trouble of getting the obnoxious phillips head bolts off (four on the bottom/float bowl and four on the top of each carb) if you're not going to replace them with these socket head bolts. It's standard practice to do this when you do your first rejetting. Just check first to make sure that the old owner didn't already do it.
You can go to the Jenks site, click on link, and print out the whole Jenks Guide from the pdf.
Regarding sealant for the pipes, I used Permatex red High-Temp RTV silicone for my Hydes.
Regarding a manometer, go to the Carb synch thread listed below for DIY links, Motion Pro mercury carb synchronizer link, Morgan CarbTune link. If you want a Motion Pro mercury synchronizer, NewBonneville carries that as well.
