If you want to get sweet & lowdown with your stock Bonnie speedo and tach... a small initial production of lay-flat gauge brackets is complete...
Available black anodized or clear anodized... please send a pm or email if interested - as of tonight I have 18 clear and 7 black - first come first served...
Original thread with pics of late stage prototypes:
Lay flat gauge brackets thread
These early production ones look pretty much the same, except are anodized instead of painted - spacers are now black anodized as well and disappear nicely under the bracket.
There's one small mod required...
On the black plastic housing under the bracket that covers the four indicator lights, you may need to elongate the existing wiring slot to allow clearance for wiring to be rerouted under the housing rather than out the end of the housing, depending on model year. The indicator cover in the pic below is from my 2003 T100 - in later model years this cover apparently changed in design somewhat and the slot in the OEM indicator cover was enlarged. You'll need to look at your indicator housing and determine the best course of action.
Cheers,
D9

D9, where is the wiring bundle unplugged so one can pull it through the hole you made? I'm trying to visualize how tedious a chore that would be.

Marty-
It unplugs inside the headlamp - undo the two headlamp bracket nuts,
remove headlamp reflector - unplug one-piece tach/gauge wiring connector - pull through - dissassemble
OEM bracket and reassemble on lay-flat bracket - mod the black plastic indicator housing & screw to underside of bracket - pull wiring connector back through wiring port in back of headlamp & reconnect - then bolt on the bracket - spacers go underneath bracket - estimated time about an hour...
Cheers,
D9

Awesome job! I'm still partial to the black, personal opinion only, and for those staying with the original gauges laying them down to match the fork angle is a nice overall improvement.

D9 - thanks for the details on the wiring that''ll come in very handy when I fit mine up (thanks again) but just looking at the photos withourt being able to look at the actual set-up on the bike. Why wouldn't you just disconnect the wires from the back of the speedo/tacho and thread the cable from the top rather than the bottom?

Blackjack, if you look at the picture of the back of the tacho, some of the wires go straight in without connectors, so you can't disconnect them (easily). I thought of that too.
D9, did you see my PM?

Blackjack-
No reason you couldn't - as long as there's clearance to disconnect/disassemble and reconnect/reassemble and you don't mind working on the bike - I found it easier to unplug inside the headlamp and remove the entire stock bracket & gauges intact, bring it over to the work bench, and get down to business... then put the reassembled dash back on the bike...
I believe you'd still need to relocate the wiring port though, as there's scant clearance from the back of the indicator housing to the leading edge of the upper triple clamp where the wiring is routed on the OEM bracket... getting the four rubber indicator lamp insulators and the tach wires through the relocated port may be somewhat fussier than just pulling the one connctor through, but perhaps not... you could give it a try, let me know what you find out!
Cheers,
D9
