I just unwrapped my new Renntec Rack (REN7256C) and the instructions say "Weight Limit 2 1/2 kgs."
I went online to convert to pounds (av) and find it is 5.5 lbs.
Could this be right? I spent $158 to hold 5.5 pounds?
Can someone check my math please.

The rack looks great though.

I weigh 172lbs and that rack would hold me just fine. It's very substantial. For liability reasons, Renntec have to say that, though.

Hi ttcox,

The rack is well built and strong. Good looking too.
Installation was quite easy except for having to do some rat-tail filing on the 4 holes that mount to the seat frame that did not line up exactly. Not much, but a little.
BTW a rat-tail file is a round file. A Dremel tool would also work.

As you can see above, any questions are swiftly answered by Brent. A quality operation.

I love mine & yes 5 lbs is small. But as said liability!! I have had a lot of weight on mime w/ no problems except the mirrors vibrate more w/ more weight. Like said I think you could carry a person on there! Mine bolted rite up- took 10 min total. Wonder why your holes didnt line up tho???? Yeah beats the he** oughta bags on a Bonne. That w/ the bar -bag I put on makes it a real sport/ cruisin bike w/o wreckin the lines & you can carry about all you need to.

The Renntech rack will hold a bunch. It's built like a bridge girder. Here's my bike fully loaded and headed out on a two week 5000 mile trip. The Renntech did a great job carrying tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, small folding camping chair, and pack (fishing) rod. I lashed this stuff to the Renntech using very strong nylon straps from my local BMW dealer. These straps are used to hold new BMW's firmly in the shipping containers. You can really put the muscle to them .... nothing budged on the rack the entire trip.

The Renntech also provided a convenient place to attach the bungee hooks for the Touratech duffle bag that rode on the passenger seat.

I would probably stop at 75 or so pounds. But that has more to do with loss of contral and too much weight beyond the rear wheel.

Good point Panthermark. Once a motorcycle gets too much weight out behind the back axle, handling can get weird, if not downright dangerous.

Last Nov, I picked up four Audi Brake rotors and four sets of pads and loaded the pads into saddlebags, and strapped the rotors to the rear rack of my old R100GS (The Mule). Although I can attribute some of the handling to slightly loose steering head bearings, the old gal wanted to go into a headshake with all that weight behind the rear axle.
