I have about 5,800 miles on my '05 T100 and now suddenly the tach quite working. I checked all of the wires and everything seems to be attached and tight. The bike is one month away from the end of the two year warranty but if I could fix it myself I would. Any ideas anyone????

Since it's still under warranty, I'd bring it to the dealer and then ask what the problem was so you know a little more in case it happens again.

David, that is probably what I will do. i suspect that it may be a bad pickup at the igniter. I am just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

I would definitely take it to the dealer, even though I really understand your desire to fix it yourself. The reason is that tach problems can be related to coil problems. The usual scenario is for the tach to get bouncy and erratic, maybe just quit, and shortly after, the coil is gone. It could be something as simple as a loose connection at a place you haven't checked, but I would make sure they thoroughly check out the coil and document your concern.

Hi Badrufus,
Thanks for the insite I had no idea that a coil problem would cause the tach to fail. Since you have the same bike is this first hand experience? I will probably have to ride the bike to my dealer in K.C. which is 200+ miles from Wichita. I sure hope the coil does not head south on me in the middle of the Flint Hills of Kansas.

For anyone else that has a Tach problem. The culprit appears to be both a bad igniter and tach head. After replacing the igniter the existing tach registered but did not work past 5,000 RPM's. Replacement of the tach head seems to have corrected the problem.
Thanks to the expetise of Bob at Engel Motors in K.C. my bike is back to normal.

Aren't you glad you had those expensive parts replaced under warranty? The timing couldn't have been better. :chug:
