My buddy's thrux makes a faint pinging or tapping noise when letting off the throttle after quick acceleration (not popping out the exhaust sound). To me, it almost sounds like someone is tapping the pipe under the bike with a fork 2 or 3 quick times? Sounds really tin-ish. I checked for loose parts and tried to mimic the sound over bumps, but nothing. Bike seemed to do this more as it was warming up. Wasn't as frequent after 30 minutes of riding??? Any ideas?

Check the chain adjustment, perhaps it is slapping the chain guard on decel?? Actually, pull the chain guard and check for chaffing from the chain.

Chain is to spec. Running 89 (doesn't seem like a valve ping). Yes, stock exhaust for now....

It wouldnt be "ping " on deceleration- accel yes. Sounds like normal popping from a "stock" exhaust. They are so heavilly restricted stock that it wouldnt sound like much more than a loud "ping". Still have the A/I ? DX that 1st! Then look into carb etc.. With the way things are w/ gas these days you dont know what you are getting @ the pump? For the minor difference in price I would run premium. Got a better chance of getting better gas since the mid range gas is "blended" @ the pump & there is no real guarartee you are getting true 89 octane. Low octane gas w/ the A/I in tact would cause more "popping" on decel. Just a thought but have heard some of the same before de-baffling the Bonne's. Then it turns into real popping. A/I gone, high test gas should do the trick? Might think new exhaust as wwell. I dont know if you can "de-baffle " the Thruxes? Hope that helps? :???: :hammer:

Funny, but it isn't coming from the tailpipes as much as under the bike or maybe at the header. Almost sounds like the ticking when the bike is off and cooling down. The metal kind of ticks and crackles when cooling down like a camp fire. Never heard bikes do this except for Triumphs. All 3 of mine did the same thing when cooling down.

I dunno? Still sounds exhaust related? Maybe has something to do w/ that POS crossover pipe in the exhaust. I wouldnt worry about it tho. I would use premium gas tho w/o question! These Triumphs make all kind of strange noises other bikes dont. Maybe check the clamp on the crossover? All said "Ride safe & Enjoy"!
