Yesterday I changed the oil and filter in my Bonnie. Used AMSOIL 20W-50 full sythetic motorcycle oil. Filled tank with 87 unleaded today. Immediately after I put gas in tank, bike would not start. Lots of clicking noises, but nothing firing. Battery seems to be fine. Is this an oil and/or gas problem? The bike only has 1900 miles (2002). Never had this problem before.

Yeah, it's an oil problem--you used the wrong brand of oil. :-D

A little more serious: Leo, tell us a little more about your problem. Does the starter turn the motor over?

I suspect the clicking noises could be coming from the starter solenoid--especially if the motor is not turning over.

Check the battery connections first--make sure they are tight. I am assuming the emergency kill switch is in the run position or you wouldn't be getting any clicking noises. :-D Next, I would check other wires in the starter circuit for loose connections.

There are a few other things that can cause problems; however, I doubt if you would get the clicking noises: faulty side-stand switch and faulty neutral switch.

I d be checking the battery.Sounds like its flat doesn t have enough power to kick the starter over.

If she's not turning over but clicking check your starter motor. I had a similar problem and put the battery on charge, put the battery back in and still wouldn't start. Put the bike in second gear, pushed it forward to turn the starter motor, put it back in neutral and no problem started straight away and been fine ever since.

Obviously, I'm no mechanical genius! Thanks for the tips. Weak battery. I charged, it started!!! P.S. Rubbing the gas tank and apologizing to the old girl about the size of power plant probably helped. :

I agree with Nathan.

Especially if she's got an alarm.

Any sort of open circuit, for instance a carb heater wire not attached will trip the fuse in the ignition circuit.

Believe you me I stripped half my lights off looking for a bad earth, to learn that one the hard way.
