I've recently bought a new 2006 America. It's a great ride. Over the weekend during a RATpack ride, I had the opportunity to meet and talk with other Triumph riders with lots of useful information. A few had recommended that I should consider removal of the air injection components. I understand it would not affect the warranty and is a low cost, relatively simple procedure.
What would be the benefits?
Performance, fuel mileage expectations?
Effects on exhaust emissions?
Any long term risks or disadvantages of leaving them
intact?

Advantage (possibly): keeps the pipes from bluing. Some like spotless chrome, others like the old-style of the bluing.

There are zero performance issues, positive or negative with the AI removal.

Oh yea, more pollution, if that's an issue with you.

And heh, why the angry faces? We're a happy "Have a Nice Day!" bunch around here.

That'll cost you 2 rounds of newbie beer!

:-D

getting rid of the AI is another way to 'stick it to the man'.

plus, in it self the removal will not gain you any preformance but if you start playing with other stuff (exhaust, jetting, etc) you would want the AI gone.

I had it installed and I think that the bike runs much better (I also put on the short Triumph slasher pipes and re jetted the carbs). But also, I don't think that pollution is an issue if the engine/jetts are all in tune and you maintain the bike (new really good plugs when required).

Take it off. One less thing to go wrong.

Personally i would take it off if you get pipes and do any mods, but i'd leave it if the bike stays otherwise stock. When adding less restrictive pipes and air mods it will contribute to popping and possibly other negitive effects. But on a stock bike i see no real reaon to dump it other than the cosmetic issue, which to some like me wasn't an issue at all.

the first time you change plugs with the ai in, you will know why to take it off.
