My gas cap has been REAL hard to remove as of late. So much so that I have to use a rag and a wrench to get it off! I don't put it on very tight at all, just one click. At first I thought maybe it ws not venting but when I remove it I don't hear any swishing sound. Any ideas?? :???:

Yes it is still under warranty but I was thinking of replacing it anyway. It's a 06 speedmaster so I don't think the Monza cap will work with the dash??I now do think it is not venting because when I do get it open it reopens easy within the first couple of miles. Does Brent's (newspeedmaster.com) gas cap fit my year bike. Some people say no??

My husband's Bonnie has very difficult cap, meanwhile mine is fine. Both are only 8 wks old. We inspected them one day and discovered that his has paint in the threads. The shop said that they'll photograph and submit for warranty replacement, but meanwhile they'll try to clean out the threads during the 500mile checkup. They said that any paint that might fall into the tank will dissolve in the gas, so not to worry about that. Not sure if it's the same issue, but worth checking out.

Thanks for your reply BonnieLass. I don't think it is that because it would always do it and it doesn't. It's defintly not venting I believe unless it tightens as I ride?? I would like to get another cap but not sure which one to get?

Right then...

Is your breather pipe (the one under the tank) trapped?? That could be one suggestion.

Next, has your bike fallen over at any point? I had problems with mine and it was the tank was vacuuming (ie the cap was really hard to take off) and I've since had the tip over valve changed...

But then I had the cap changed after the 500 mile service.

This is all on my 06 America.

You all need to read the other 100 threads on this issue! I think everybody has a proplem with the gas cap. My Dealer even took one off a new bike in the showroom and it worked perfect - for about a week and then back to impossible to remove. I still think it is a vacuum problem and that there is a flaw in the way the cap is made. I said in a previous thread I think Triumph should address it since so many have problems. I have an America and I am leaning to buying a new cap so it's not so embarassing at the gas station. I see there is another cap at NewBonneville that is around $49, has anyone used it on a TBA?

Funny. I did a search and nothing came up?? Oh well at least I'm not a weakling since others have had the same problem. What's the fix?

I have not looked into the vent pipe under the tank but I will. Thanks for the tip. No the bike has never fallen over.
