I'd like to get some engine bars for my T100. I'm only aware of the ones made by Renntec and the genuine Triumph ones. They both cost around £100. Does anyone have them?

1) I'd like to know how wide they are once fitted?

2) Will they protect my legs if the bike falls over or slides. Are they wide enough?

3) Do you know any other manufactures?

Thanks

Renntec, definitely Renntec.

To me, they look better. They sit a bit lower too; protecting more of the engine in the event of a crash. And, while I haven't seen the stock Triumph bars in person, the Renntec bars look to be made of heavier tubing. definitely larger than one inch diameter.

They stick out just a little bit further than the stock foot peg.

If the bike were laid down, they might help protect your leg, but I would never count on it. But then I'm a little pessimistic about crashes. On a bike, there is no such thing as a fender-bender.

Engine bars are designed to protect the engine, not your legs. Get a really good pair of riding boots, I use the Triumph Expeditions, with shin and ankle protection, and a good pair of riding overpants with hip and knee armor.

I wouldn't count on crash bars to protect your legs in a crash. The Renntec bars are really beefy.

Hepco & Becker also makes crash bars for the Bonnie. I think they are available through newbonneville.com and twistedthrottle.com. I didn't like how they mounted. Specifically, it looked like it would interfere with my skid plate.

I thought crash bars would take most of the weight off the leg in case of a slide/low speed drop. I'm trying to improve safety so that I can relax a bit more. London drivers are giving us bikers a hard time.

I'm not trying to rely on anything or anyone but if there are ways to prevent serious injury through silly little accidents I'd like to know. Years ago I slided with a 100cc learner bike and I could barely walk for a week. That's why I thought fitting engine bars and maybe even some hard panniers could help.

Thanks for your replies

It may be a false sense of security but I like the idea of the engine bars extending out enough giving at tleast the illusion of leg protection.
I sure like that black fairing in the above post. Where is it from?
