Just got in from riding home at night. I get off the bike to open the garage door, and I see that my headers are glowing!!!!

I am assuming this is bad. Anyone have any idea about it?

Any and all thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Wheels

Thanks road_dog.

I've never seen that before on any bike I've owned and I was a bit freaked. I've got about 800 miles on her and was worried I was getting a bit past the recommended 600 mile service.

Reading that thread helps, but I'll feel better when I take it in for it's first service next week.

I can get some sleep now...

Cheers

Normal on a stock bike. Remember, those head pipes are single-walled, you're seeing the outside of the same piece of metal that is in direct contact with the exhaust gas.

Hey jstark47,

I've seen them wrapped, but do you know if it's common practice to upgrade the headers?

I'm with you Geoff. I've been riding her non-stop since I got her. I'm over 800 miles and a service coming up next week. Hopefully all will work itself out.

Oh, and maybe a new pipe, AI removed, and jetted just to cover all bases....just in case.

I've never owned a bike that I wanted to mod as much as with this Bonneville!

Side note, Geoff....I was born in Willingboro. Hope to see you on the road sometime.

Ride it. The AI encourages burning off the excess energy in the exhaust as an air polution measure. You can remove the AI and decrease the heat at the top of the header pipe. Or, leave it -- like I have.

Green, green, green.......................... :-D :-D :-D

Glad you like the new ride, Wheels.
I was born in Philly, now in the 'Boro.
