I have been reading that helmet noise can cause permanent hearing loss. These articles recommend wearing ear plugs. What do you think?

I wear them all time. At my age I have enough noise in my head. :-D

I wear them all the time too. Find the ride much more enjoyable with them.

I use them for longer rides; what a difference. The muted sounds create a more relaxed ride.

Yep - every ride over about 10 miles is ear-plug territory for me.

I'd put em in even for shorter rides too if I wasn't so bone lazy. No question that they save your hearing... but I find I like the sound of the pipes a lot more with the plugs in - more sonorous is the only way I can describe it.

For long rides they are a must. My pipes are pretty loud and I like them, but I'd rather let everyone else enjoy them.

kind of you, LP. You don't forget to ask if they really want to enjoy them, do you? :-D

Locally I don't use them. Too much trouble. Lazy. You name it.

On trips, like the one coming up Thursday, I will use them all the time.

One caution. If you haven't used them recently check your speedo now and then when you first start using them. I, for one, tend to ride much faster with them than without, and tend not to notice it. Not a bad thing, but I think it is nice to actually decide to ride fast before I do it.

This phenomena is particularly problematic when you are rolling through some little burg with a 35mph speed limit, glance down and see you are doing 60, glance up and see ole Bubba sitting there in his patrol cage, and then remember that the only way he gets paid is to haul your *ss down. Fun.

Monte :-D
