Is the Speedmaster a Bonneville? Did anyone read the review of the Speedmaster in the June issue of Motor Cyclist? The headline is "Triumph Speedmaster... A Bonneville Built for America."
I've never heard the Speedmaster called a Bonneville before. Someone please enlighten me.

Basically yes and no(in appearance) ,speedmaster 865cc has 270 degree firing angle-torque......865cc T-100 Bonneville 360 degree firing angle H.P. otherwise they pretty much share the same engine. The speedmaster is a Bonneville ,of different caliber!. :upthumb:

The Speedmaster was designed by Triumph to be exactly what MotorCyclist called it. Bonnevilles cover the Thruxton, T100, Bonnie Black, Standard Bonnie, Bonneville America, and Speedmaster.

When I got my 03 America it and the speedy were called Triumph Bonneville America/Speedy. Now, I'm not sure but they may have dropped the Bonneville name from them. :???:

OK...Excuse my ignorance. What makes all these models Bonnevilles? Is it the motor? Is it the attitude? The only reason why I need to know is because when I question something I need to know the answer. It's like a sickness.
I drive my wife nuts with this stuff. She told me to start a web site that is full of useless facts. (useless to most people)Before the Internet it was much harder to fill my ignorant voids.

They are very different and yet very similar. The speedmaster shares the same engine minus the firing angle and a few other more minor things. But the frames and all that are very different. yet the engineering is very similar in may ways. It's not a Bonneville w/o a doubt. But they are very similar in many ways. The big differences are the cruiser's raked forks and forward controls. The frames are different, but if you put mid controls on the speedmaster and changed the fork angle to match the Bonneville, the bikes would be very much the same for all intents and purposes. So no, it's not a Bonneville, but they are relatively very similar. The main difference in feel will be the cruiser's longer wheelbase and higher weight which will give you that big bike feel while the bonnie will give you more of that "flick it round the turns" feel on those tight corners. Speedys are a bit lethargic at slow speeds. (read: under 5 MPH) But their forte is awesome stability at speed.Even wind that makes my car feel squirrely on the freeway doesn't seem to faze my speedy.
All that said, i guess it's a matter of opinion. But my one word answer would be "no". So why did i just spend all this time explaining it in detail when i could have simply said "no"? Simple.......lots of beer......cold delicious beer :-D

Daz with all those differences I wonder why they called them the Bonneville America or the Bonneville Speedmaster. :???:

That's the point I'm trying to make. Did someone at the corporate level just say, "Call them Bonnevilles." Is the Speedmaster called a Bonneville or not? In this thread I have read both yes and no answers. If I called Triumph, would they call the Speedmaster a Bonneville Speedmaster?

The actual Triumph shop manual-the manual you buy from the dealer in a three ring binder, list all the bikes together be it a Bonneville or an America or Speedmaster. They all share the same basic engine, but different frames. Dazco my Speedmaster gets blown around here in Arizona on the freeways when it's windy.I guess we got higher winds. :-D
