Ok, just bought a used T100, only 2500 miles, sweet deal. I started riding it right away. About 3 weeks and hundreds of miles later I think, gee, wonder how the pressures are? Well, I take out my trusty digital tire gauge and find 14 lbs in the rear and 21 in the front. Wooo, not a good thing. The side walls say max pressure is 40psi. Ok gang, what is a good riding pressure for some freeway, single rider, back country roads, etc

The bike has the Metzlers, so whats the general consensus? :???:

not 14 or 21...but you knew that.
try 33 front & 38 rear.
which is stock.
some prefer 34 /39 , I usually go to the higher setting for hwy. For around town and general riding the stock setting is nice
have fun with the new ride...& check your air before every ride, or at least more. two little contact patches is all you got

I check my tire pressures no less often than every two weeks, usually weekly or before my ride if more than a week has passed.

My back tire loses a couple psi per week. Front tire does better, but still needs air at least every other check.

I learned to check them out of fear, after nearly wiping out at 60mph from a slow puncture leak on a brand new bike and not having a feel yet for the meaning of the wobbly rear end--I thought it was the wind blowing me around, it was a blustery day.

Ditto - check/recheck every ride.
I have an '06 t100 and i check before every ride. Pressure sometimes goes in a day, sometimes in a week.

On monday, the valve somehow worked loose. I was out on a 100 mile ride, took a rest stop. Checked the tires - and hisssssssss.... So I put the cap on tight, and rode carefully to a gas station to borrow the little jig tool that tighens it in.

Remember, sounds rare, but its only a 2 wheeler so take no chances.

As the Bonny has tubes in its tyres (relatively unusual these days on road bikes), the pressure tends to drop more rapidly than with tubeless tyres, so needs checking more frequently than you might be used to. Tubes are strange things, my front one hardly ever varies (other than due to changes in ambient temperature), but the rear needs topping up every week. I don't think this is unusual.

I go 33F/38R as per the owners manual.

Strangely I find that since I put new tires (still the OEM Battalax) on in the spring, I lose very little pressure week to week. With the stock tires I lost a couple of PSI every week.

Anyone else find this?

I am now on my third rear and second front tire; all OEM Metzlers. The original front tire held pressure very well, the original back tire would loose a few pounds every few days, the second back tire held pressure well and the current tires (#2 front and #3 rear) loose a few pounds every few days. Thats why I check before every ride.

Rich

P.S. For those who are wondering about the rest of the story...the Poulan holds pressure in all four tires through an entire mowing or snow plowing season. However, one tire on the trailer goes completely flat in a few weeks. It's a bear to re-inflate since it is tubeless and when it goes flat the bead seperates.

Doogin

Why 36 in the front? Are yours still stock? And can you really tell the difference between 33 vs. 34 in front and 38 vs 39 in back?
