If I was a dealer I would charge $1,000,000 but since I'm not I'll have to figure out another way to scam someone out of $1,000,000

I bought my '06 America last May and it was $7,500 out the door plus I too got $500 of accessories last year in the Triumph promotion - added the roadster windscreen and tach. I paid no tax since I bought from the Hattiesburg, MS dealer and I live in Louisiana (I paid the tax later).

a good starting point is to first of all realize that dealer charges and all that mean nothing. The OTD price is all you need to worry about. If a dealer tells you how much setup will cost he's simply trying to make you feel like you're getting something more for the money he's gonna try and suck outa your wallet. the best thing to do is talk OTD prices. As a general rule here in so cal, which by the way is NOT a good place to buy a triumph price-wise, the list price is about what you should expect to pay as an OTD price at best. Theres a couple places here that will do that, and some others may match them. But my speedy was $8.6 list and thats what i paid OTD cash. Some places may not do the best price if you finance, but thats another story.

In any case, i'm not sure what prices are like in NY. But i have seen them in other states and almost all are cheaper than so cal. So i would tell the salesman you want the america for an OTD price that is the same as list. Of course this isn't necessarily going to work if there are no other triumph dealers anywhere nearby. There has to be some competition or they have you over a barrel unless their sales are low and they are desperate. Unfortunately tho, theres no way for you to know that.

Geoff and Black Lion, no need to get snotty. He's asking a legit question. We've had these kind of posts before and it's interesting to see the variation around the country.

Can anybody recommend a good dealer in his area? Or at least let him know when/if he's getting ripped off blind?

Former-NY'er,
Mare

There are some folks from NYC area discussing bad roads at this thread:
Bad Roads Thread
Assuming you're not able to pm any of them (I think you have to have made a minimum number of posts to be able to personal message someone) I would suggest you just politely butt in. They were mentioning something about one dealer. Just go to that thread, introduce yourself and ask for suggestions re NYC dealers.
There is a tremendous amount of variation between different parts of the country, but also within regions. My dealer in Kingsport, TN started from MSRP, took off $300 on a new T100 in the springtime, and gave me a good deal on my trade. Only other charges were state sales tax and $28 for the plate, registration, and title. The dealer in Asheville, NC, only one hour away, started from MSRP plus $400 set-up/delivery fees. So you negotiate and get $400 off and feel good--right! But, they're still nice people and have good service, so it's not just a matter of price. Ask the NYC folks about a good dealer with good service and reasonable-for-the-area pricing policies.
And welcome to the forums!
