I know this topic has been discussed. I am gonna replace the rear tire on the Bonne this week. I am thinkin 140- 150.

The pros= More accurate speedo, less wear (maybe?), & better looks.

Dont remember cons? Handling, fit etc.. Thoughts????? :???:

Going with a wider tire on same size rim causes the tire to deform to conform to the "narrow" rim in its mind. This causes the edge of the usable surface to be at a steeper angle reducing you chances to be able to use the entire tire. Your chicken strips will get wider. Generally a gien rim width will be cool with a narrow range of tire widths. Seems logical to want to match your front to rear as far as how much of the tread you use. You would generally not want a tire combo where the front has no chicken strip and the rear has a half or three quarter inch strip of unused thread. This is of course assuming that you just don't want a bigger tire on your rear regardless of how matched or usable it is. If bigger is beter regardless, forget everything above. The stock sizes seem pretty well matched. Regardless, enjoy the ride!

Won't help your speedo - its driven off the front wheel. I have run a 140 and 150 - read the manufactures specs on rim sizing and follow their recommendations - vertwrks is correct and a tire designed for a wider rim squished to fit a narrow rim is not always a good thing.

The 140 sits better on the rimtahn a 130, looking from the rear it has a smaller radius than the 130. This lets you corner better as you don't have to "push' the bike onto the higher part of the tyre.
I have not tried a 150 I would never go back to a 130.

I'm on my second Dunlop 150mm rear tire (GT501) ...without looking it up, I believe it is a 150/70-17. About to order #3, only because it's worked well.

When I wear out both tires at the same time, I may try a set of Metzelers .... people on this forum seem to like them.

Thanks again!! I was thinkin the 140 & Metzlers, but the Metzlers are 2x the cost ofthe Battalax's. I may go for the 140 since it seems that it maintains the handling & loks a little better? She gets a new shoe this week tho. Front can wait another 2-3k miles. Duh- Iforgot the speedo runs off the front tire. O well- woulda been nice tocorrect the error? Thanks again all!!
