I finally took the plunge and installed my cut up air box and installed uni pods. I was already using 130's as mains with the baffle out, so I want to 140's. Mike at Belacorse said leave the 130's in but I thought they would be too lean. Well, the 140's were too rich, feeling boggy and reluctant to rev out. I put the 130's back in and holy smoke, it runs. I put 1 shim in as well.
Jenks says 130 also, so its pretty close now.
And when you open it up, the carbs say WAHHHHH

What sort of mufflers are you running? Do you have a Thruxton needle in the carbs?

I've got the K&N pods, 135 mains, 42 pilots, thruxton needles with one shim, and Emgo slip-ons... the plugs are tan and it goes like crazy!

Isn't that incredible? I was expecting a little noise when I did the same... but man, when you open it up, the sucking noise almost drowns out the exhaust! :-D

Geoff, So what do you say to all the folks riding the fence over wheather to NARK or not???? Is not a huge difference?

Only way to know for 100% certain the jetting is to run on a dyno with EGA, of course they can be hard to find.

The more you mod the more mods you want. Ain't it sweet???????

I just yanked my airbox, stuck in the NARK and replaced the main jets to 130s. It hasn't been used below about 6000 feet yet, and I want to see how it runs at sea level (or thereabouts) before I back off a bit to the 125's. As it stands, it's a wholly different bike. I do have Thrux needles and a variety of jets to try, but just changing out the mains (from the stock 110s, which I rode with to the end of my block and back with the NARK installed) was enough to convince me that these bikes are starving for fuel and air.

I think before I make any further adjustments (and from here on out, if I understand things correctly [after reading the latest Jenks Notes for the 40th time], I'm fine tuning) I'll put it on a dyno. Sumgum runs great! Gotta throw a tank of gas in her to see how much common sense I just gave away. I'll get back to y'all with that update soon...

By the way, I'm running Staintune pea shooters, and they've really come to life...

I'm running open exhaust and K&N pods and that air intake noise is amazing. It does somewhat drown out the exhaust noise, or more like add to it. I was running 140 mains, 42 pilots, thruxton needles no shims and she ran great. I pulled the plugs a while ago and the ceramic looked white as can be, like new, so I thought I was perhaps a bit lean. Ordered two sets of mains from NB, 145's and 150's to play with. Went to put in the 145's and found three 150's and one 145 in the little bag! Awe *****! Even had my young eyes double check the tiny numbers for me. So I put in the 150's and took her for a run. It was a short ride but she runs perhaps even better, haven't pulled the plugs to look but she was at 95 mph in 4th at 6500+rpm! 19T sprocket also. Seat of the pants dyno is very inaccurate I know but I drive on the road not on a treadmill.

I was surprised too but the 130 definitely runs better than 140, in my bike. It may like 132 or 135, and I may try it, but for now its good.
Using thrux needle, 1 shim, 42/130 jetting on sprint mufflers. Power feels great, now to ride it for a while and see what the fuel mileage does

PS- the shim may be the difference, Lox

With my 130's I do get the occasional carb fart... I think I may still be a touch lean. But compared to stock, I'm RICH RICH RICH!! :-D

Very cool. Deleting the airbox and free-flowing pipes are a 10-15% boost in HP over stock. That's noticable!
Good to hear that airbox worked out well for you Geoff.
