Curious what your usin for lube dog...
I've read alot of guy's using wd40 and a rag....with good results.
As for the belt, it'll cost you a pile...and it wont deliver the power that a chain will.

Doggie, what is it? The stress of Mother's Day maybe? You put a belt on your jeans, dog, not your Bonnie. Slap yourself in the face, man, you'll come out of it!

Try Belray superclean before going to the belt. My rims are black and I have NEVER seen a speck of the gray/white Belray on them. :???:

Doggie, I think we need to talk about a personal issue: your chain hygiene. I use Maxima Chain Wax, less than I'm supposed to but enough, cleaning maybe three times a year with kerosene down to sparkling plates. As long as I put the chain wax on immediately after a ride when the chain is really warm, I just don't get that much fling, if any. I learned from having the common "drool under the sprocket cover" to put less on. Either you're being very, very picky about how clean your chain must be or you're using something with excessive fling. Now as far as those Harley dudes and their belts--belts are sissy. Harleys with belts are sissy. Just keep thinking that when you're out there with your CHAIN.

Road_dog; forget all about chain lubes. WD-40 is all you need to keep your chain clean and healthy.

Yes, the MANLY chain, steely and strong, unlike the flacid, rubbery belt. Be a MANLY man!

Your correct in the sense that they both do the same job basically the same way. A belt just wont take the abuse a chain will, it wont withstand the same forces.
Granted belt's are nice within regards to maintenence, but all you really need to do to that chain is wipe'r down with some wd-40 and a rag.
I've used chain wax in the past but only after a ride when the chain is still warm from the ride. I dont get much fling, I've eye-balled belray and will probably try that so I can say I have.
For the money you'll spend on a belt-drive rig and installation you could do some work to your bonnie from a performance stand point. :-)

We need to talk. This morning was prime riding, get your priorities straight and forget this polishing business. Besides, a little chain gunk dripping from the sprocket gives it that old school look.

Hmm.....i know nothing about the subject. But someone at the triumphtalk forum put a belt on and he swears it gave him more power. Seems like it would since it's lighter and probably binds less. But in any case right or wrong, i believe he's going to dyno it and see. (i assume he already dyno'd it w/chain)

I suppose I could stop after wiping down with WD-40 but I find I've developed an affinity for the smell of the Maxima chain lube. Go figure.
Either way, I don't get any fling from my system.
....but don't get me started on the Castrol Chain wax stuff - never again with that vile fling champion touch my clean links.
