The good news is ... my bike isn't down. The bad news is ... I wanted to begin the valve reshimming process early this coming week. So I ordered the 'official' Triumph backlash gear removal tools, including the wrench which I probably won't use. The tool came in within a few days from Triumph, but only contained one of the "L"-shaped pins to keep the backlash gears from unwinding. I want to be able to pull both cams at one time so I can play "musical chairs" with the shims from the engine, so I don't end up ordering 5-6 shims. I probably should have done what others on this site have done .... make my own pins.

I immediately contacted the dealer's parts dept on Wednesday of this past week, who would immediately contact Triumph, requesting the missing pin.

When I stopped in Sat afternoon to check on the status, I got this "oh my gosh, I forgot. It's my fault. I've got a note to myself right here. I'll take care of it first thing Monday". Good thing I stopped in to check.

I forget things, too. But if my only job was to handle customer orders, I think I'd make sure every order or problem was addressed promptly.

OK, now I feel better.

Bob

Bob,

I can't do anything about the part...but I just wanted you to know that you are my hero for tearing into your engine like that. My carburetor work, which I was so proud of, makes me feel like a dilettante in comparison. I'm glad to know that when time and money permits me to change cam and c.c.'s, I will have a Triumph engine expert living so close.

(And if this smooge-job doesn't work, and I need help, what kind of beer do you drink?)

Good beer ..... microbrewery beer .... even stuff from big breweries that passes for micro beer. I'd be happy to help you with your bike's valves when the time comes. Increasing the bore? I don't want to go there myself.
