and debate, I finally got around to taking out the AI and rejetting. The whole process took me about two hours. I had only two problems. I borke part of the fin while trying to take out the chrome air injector piece. I was using a wrench. I got the piece out by bending the chrome stalk until it broke off and using a socket and rachet. I then accidently stripped part of one of the bolts holding the carb bowl. I fixed this by putting in a taller bolt which luckily caught some threads at the top of the whole and tightened up nicely. The cool thing is I did the rejet with the carbs still on the bike. So now I am running 115 mains, TORS, AI removed and snorkel out. According to the butt dyno, it seems to be running strong. No popping.
Ken

Broke a fin? On the head????? No worries I guess but that would have freaked me out. I guess thats why there are so many, extras.
And cross threading in Aluminum, yeah thats way easy to do. Glad you found some more theads and got by. Mine popped way less without the AI.
How long you gonna mull over NARKing it????? Resistance is futile you know.

It actually is not as bad as it sounds. The fin is not one of the ones on the side of the head, but right next to the air injector nut. The ones you replace with the nice bolts from newbonneville.com. I would have to point it out to you for you to notice it. If you have not done the AI removal yet just be real careful if you are using a wrench or better yet use a socket. The bike is riding fine and I had feeling of imense satisfaction after doing the mods myself. I give myself 6 months or less before I NARK it!!!!! :hammer:

Hey Ken,
Good news about your AI. Also, I was surprised to see Lake Forrest as you home. I live in Foothill Ranch, but since no one ever knows where that is, I use Orange County.
See you at Cooks sometime.

Er, bad news about the bolt.
I've killed many bolts in my day.

I just did the air injector removal kit as well. It sounds brutal but kenss4's approach for removing the old injectors is the easiest one I found as well.
The instructions tell you to grind off the side of a 13mm wrench to get it to fit in the tight area the injectors are set in.
I found I needed to find some heavy duty side cutters to remove the band clamps from the elbow tube . After removing the elbow I stuck a phillips screwdriver into the pipe and bent it back and forth to break it off. After this brutality it's a very easy job to finish with a standard 13mm socket and long extension. Sure you can grind off wrenches and cut out the sides of sockets to allow you to take the tubes out in one piece but I did not have a wrench or socket I was willing to sacrifice. I'd be willing to bet two new injector tubes cost much less than a new 13mm box end Snap-on wrench! There is not enough room for tubing cutters, dremel tools etc and the pipe is way too long for even the deepest deep well socket made. That leaves the easy way. The pipe metal is cheap and very soft. It is almost like copper gas line. What do you care about the air tubes anyway, after all the whole point is to get rid of them.
If you buy the Jenks bolt kit be aware that the replacement bolt heads are 12mm not the 13 of the originals. This will help
to keep you from marring them with the wrong size socket upon install. I torqued mine to 20 foot lbs.
