I know this topic has been covered, but I thought maybe someone has seen something new they could share.
It's Florida and it's summer. It's so hot that you can smell and see the smoke from 250+ forest fires. I feel like I am in one when I wear my leather jacket.

Does anyone have any ideas for a BREATHABLE textile jacket with armor that is retro or plain looking? I don't want to look like I stepped off a space ship when I ride a throwback bike, but I want to be safe. Thanks.

I've got my eye on the retro paddock jacket to go with my 06 Scrambler..... i had to track down an 06 in Orlando because the all black engine on the 07 looks awful..... i got the TOR's and a union jack tank cover and absolutely love this bike and wanted an equally cool and retro jacket to go with it.... the Paddock's got a cool racing stripe on the front with the logo on the back...... it's made of water resistant cordura with a zip out lining and a nylon mesh back with removable armor on the elbow and shoulders..... it lists for $185......

I'll take a look Spacecoast. Did you partake in any of that surf this morning? Everyone but me went and told me about it all day. I was stuck in the office, but I can afford a motorcycle and they can't. :-D

I wear a Nitro full mesh jacket. It isn't what I would call retro , just plain black. Full sleeve zip out liner for cooler weather and vents great. Zips up to my Triumph pants. I've worn it in 95+ degree weather and was comfortable when moving. Armor in back, shoulders, elbows, & chest. And only about $80.00. It has also proved itself to me after my highside crash that sent me flying, tumbling, totaled my bike, and cracked my helmet. Jacket didn't even get a tear, and I'm still wearing it.

Check out the Vanson Vent Max 3. All mesh. 1000 cordura with full armor. If your up in Odessa stop by Euro Cycles. They just started stocking them a few months ago. Keep hinting to the wife with fathers day coming up.

Not by choice, but I now live in SoCal - the Mojave Desert to be precise. I have found that the Triumph mesh summer jacket is quite comfortable, and I think it's very nice looking. You can view it online here: http://www.calmoto.com/SHOP/triumphrochesterjacket.html

Cheers!

I currently have a Belstaff Zodiac jacket. It's still too warm on the really hot days. I just ordered one of these. Don't know how styling I'll be, but I won't be hot anymore. Was just under $40 shipped from MotorcycleCloseouts, so it's not too much of a loss if I don't like it. It's got armor in the shoulders and elbows and a pad in the back. It's the FirstGear Mesh-Tex Pullover Jacket

One thing to consider is a Joe Rocket Sahara vest underneath your mesh jacket. You soak it in water for 1-3 minutes, and evaporative cooling does the rest. It's kinda like a more effective version of a wet T-shirt. I picked one up new on eBay for $29 plus shipping. Even a wet bandana worn around your neck will help considerably.

I recently picked up a Vanson Breeze in a light Gray color. It's perforated, hold it up to the light and you can see right thru it. No armor, but sometimes you must sacrifice something. My main concern is skin grafts! Bones heal alot fast and easier that skin grafts, with less infection! It will protect your hide and the lighter color won't be as hot.
