My husband called our dealer to get advice on making that darn fork lock work... Won't turn on either of our bikes. When I took my bike in for first check-up, the service guy said he called Triumph about it and they sent him a few locks and told him to just swap them out.

My fork lock has never worked on my 02 bonnie, and I never bothered to do anything about it for fear that I would one day get it to lock, and then I'd never be able to unlock it.

Actually, it's an 03 bonnie, built in 02.

Either way, the lock doesn't work.

LOTS of people here have had the same problem, yet some claim that they use it all the time. At a minimum soak it in WD 40 and try following the step by step instructions in the Owner's Guide.

Personally, I have only once tried to lock my bike with it, although it will take the key and will turn after it is pushed in, just like it should, once I got it locked in place it took a long time fiddling with it to get it unlocked. I finally did, but what a pain.

Thankfully this was at home in the garage when I first got the bike, but I had visions of a time in '03 when Sue and I were riding two up on a Honda we had trailered to Myrtle Beach. It was winter and we rode down to Brookgreen Gardens, were about the only souls in the place and I fork locked the Honda. BIG mistake. I messed it for almost an hour before I hit the secret and forever mysterious right combination, bending the key in the process. Had I not gotten it unglued it would have been a real headache: it was a Sunday afternoon, the Garden staff had gone, we were out of cell phone range, with a LONG walk even to get to the highway. Needless to say I am very reluctant to use any fork lock.

Good luck. Let us know what the dealer decides.

Monte

My tech at the dealer demonstrated the fork lock procedure for me when I bought the bike. He had a pretty hard time getting it unlocked. I decided right then and there never to use it.

Not a whole lot of bonnies are stolen anyway (especially in my neck of the woods.)

Heres the method I use:
Turn bars fully to the left (from perspective of sitting on bike)
Turn the steering lock key to the left,
push the lock in
turn the key to the right
To unlock, turn the key to the left, lock pushes out, remove key.
In getting the key to turn left when starting the process, you might have to jiggle the key a little. My lock has gobs of grease on it, but if yours seems dry, lube it with some lock oil.

Not trying to insult anyone's intelligence here. The steering locks are a little different. Mine works smoothly now that I have the hang of it. I rarely use mine, but nice to have that extra deterrent in some situations. Now if they had only put a friggin' helmet lock on these bikes!

I quit using mine after spending a half hour getting it loose at 2am and bending the key in the process. I had used it 25-30 times before and this was the first and last time I will have that problem. I'll take my chances with theft.

I tried my lock shortly after I got my bike and it worked fine, but aside from that I have never actually used it. My bike sleeps in the garage and I rarely leave her alone in public for very long. But there might come a time that I would want to use the and I'd like to think it would work. Maybe I should just get in the habit of using it to be sure.

Never ever, ever, ever again will I use the lock.
I am pretty mechanically inclined But..... I was stuck over
30 miles from home for over an hour with the key stuck in
the lock wile in the lock position. I almost ripped the key
in half I could see a tear half way through the key before I
finally got the dam thing to turn. That was back when
my bike was no more then a month old.
Did I say Never ever, ever, ever again will I use the steering
lock again.
