Can anyone out there tell me from personal experience what it's like to have slightly lower shocks. I'm considering it but not at the expense the change will adversely effect handling too much. Yeah, I know both front and back should be ideally the same height but has anyone done it and ridden on trips etc and found the difference fairly negligible? Thanks

I am also contemplating lowering by changing the shocks. I don't like the idea of using lowering blocks.
I sent an enquiry to Ikon and this is their repy:
"Thanks for your enquiry. I think we have just the shocks for you. We have a unit in our 7610-SP8 series which we are aware some riders have used to lower the Speedmasters by about 35mm or so. The shock itself is about 26mm shorter than the original but with the way the shocks are located on the Speedmaster the result is a greater change in the bike height than the change in the shock length. Cost of a pair of these or indeed a shorter set if you wanted us to make something specially to a length of your choosing is $710.00 including GST and delivery."
I probably will get them if I can get the cash together, if I don't find a cheaper alternative.
I am not too concerned about the handling as the current shockies don't seem that good so expect it will not deteriorate that much (hope).

gidday Binnsy, I'm still waiting for a reply from Works performance as they have a slighly lower version and they use duel rate suspension as opposed to progressive. I'll let you know what I decide.

Works also has their street tracker in a "height adjustable" version. It adjust via a threaded shaft and dual lock nut system. I am not sure of the minimum length. My set from them is set to standard Thruxton length (I could not afford any lower due to scraping pegs now) but can be raised if needed.

I'm thinking about this arrangement
street trackers with this function
but it only allows instant adjustment from heavy to light load.
Anyway, are yours a good shockie? I like the fact they have the duel rate suspension and this ARS function. Also the model I'm looking at is 12" which is only 3/4" less I think. Either that or 1/2" but I don't think it is enough to worry about regards too much peg scraping. and it will allow me to nestle nicely into my bike.

I have a Thruxton, but I can tell you I am very happy with the shocks (street trackers, Dual Rate Springs) and th DRS fronts. Works was great to "work; with too.

well boboso and others, it looks like the street trackers and front springs from works, didn't work out so to speak. They wanted $157US to ship to Aus taking the grand total to over $900US. I just can't justify that sort of money so I'm now looking at the progressives who have distributors here. I've put up another post asking about the lowered 440's in another thread so hopefully I can get the correct stock numbers and then start again to get prices.

I just finished installing the Progressive 412's on my '04 America. They are 11.5 inches. The stock shocks are 12.5. It actually lowers the rear of the bike about 2 inches. It was perfect for me. Gave it the look I was after, and made the seating much more comfortable. I didn't change anything in the front end. As for handling, I actually think it handles better. You seem to sit down in the bike, making it smoother leaning into curves etc. Just my personal opinion, but I always thought the rear end was a little high on these bikes, exposing too much of the rear wheel. These shorter shocks drop it down just enough to eliminate that. They also raise the back of your chain guard up a little, making it look straight in line with the rest of the bike, instead of at an angle. Long story short, I like 'em.
