Hi guys

How critically should the increments of turn on the mixture screws be regarded, with regards to the pilot jet.

e.g. At what number of turns out should upping the pilot jet size be considered?

In a quarter of a turn. How much difference does it actually make, is it significant?

I'd say more than 3 turns and you should get 42 pilots.

I've noticed a significant difference in as little as 1/8 to 1/4 turn on mine.

By my experience, Sweatmachine is right on. Your bike will be close with the proper sized pilot and 2.5 turns out, but really good tuning requires finer adjustment. I installed idle mixture thumbscrews and went riding. As I rode, the thumbscrews allowed me to make minute adjustments at lights or on the roadside. Dialing in your idle mixture this way makes for perfect tuning...

Once again thanks.

Sweatmachine I really didn't think they would be that critical, that's really good to know because it means I'm still in the ball park and haven't messed up drastically.

I holed a piston on an old bonnie years ago so I'm kinda twitchy about this kinda thing.

I needed that for my confidence, as i was kinda worried.

I'm on 40's at the moment at 3 turns out and she's popping and banging quite a bit on the over run, when I down shift with the throttle shut.

I'm gonna take her out this evening after work and see how close I can get with the screws, failing that I'll re- jet the Pilot to a 42.
