Before I start swappin" jets and needles ...has anyone pulled the baffles as protocol to the mods?I can't imagine how ungodly loud they would be, probably get a fine. Just crossing T's and dottin" I's. :hammer:

They're loud alright. I didn't ride it with the baffles out, but just revving it like that was enough to scare me ! I think you'd also suffer min the low end with no back pressure. I'm not into loud tho, so maybe what i think sounds like WW2 wouldn't bother you. I even wrapped mine more than stock to quiet them even more.

Great.I didn't want to take them out if I didn't have to.How did you do that for future reference?I know about the socket head cap screw that holds them in place,I think. What did you wrap them with after you extracted them? And was that before or after mods.wait a minute ...keep this simple.Did it have a direct effect on the bike modification? In other words seem to cork it up some.

The baffle comes out after removing that screw AND the 2 bolts that attach the mounting bracket. Why i'm not sure because it doesn't seem to make sense. But somehow they keep it from coming out even tho there should be no contact. Anyways, the baffle is the entire length of the muffler but only the last foot is wrapped between 2 spacers thast enclose the wrapping. That section is of corse perferated. From that point to the header the pipe has louvers (gill type slits) over about 1/2 of the length between the end of the wrapped baffle section and the header. So i wrapped that section of the pipe almost to the header joint. A lot of the sound suppression i suspect wasn't as much from the sound going into the fiberglass thru the louvers as much as it was simply the packing dampening the muffler so it doesn't resonate. Later on a drilled some holes to allow more sound into the packing but that didn't seem to matter much. Maybe a tiny bit lower. Overall tho i'd say they are now 25% quieter than stock, and it did not affect the power at all. If you do this i wouls suggest using "Silent Sport" muffler packing. It's much better than any other because it doesn't blow out and it's far easier to use. I put it around the baffle and used masking tape to hold it tight. the tape sorta burns away eventually so the packing expands more. Unlike traditional fiberglass packing it is in strands that is much easier to work with. Mine is still fully intact and hasn't changed in close to 2 years ! I researched packing before using SS and everything i read indicated it was the best and they were right.

That is one of the questions answered about the baffles so I can procede with mods and can quiet it down some if I prefer.Have a neighbor 2 blocks away with T100 not with TB pipes,TORS or something else .He had his mods done in kalamazoo ,Mi. in which he is running straight pipe, almost. He's gonna get a ticket. When he goes down the street branches start falling off the trees it's way too loud.Thanks.Have a good one.

Hey Speedblastr, I'm in NW Indiana too. I put on the off-road Triumph mufflers and consider them to be a good in between for the stock mufflers and say maybe the Thunderbike pipes. If you're not far away you're free to hear mine. My `62 Tiger is louder with it's "stock" exhaust. It gives it a nice hotrod sound but it isn't annoying.

I'm from NE.It's too late,I already have them on besides coming from New Zealand and $800 later I'm gonna like them.Anyhow at least Daz told me how to quiet them down if I need to, but I don't think I will as of yet.

speedblaster,
The thunbderbike pipes are very specifically tuned and made specifically for our bikes to maximize power gains. Doing anything, including removing the baffles, blocking them or modifying them in any way will cause you to experience a loss in power. The guys at Nelson Powersports spent a lot of time and money to get them perfect, if you mess with them you are going downhill.

Dinqua,
I wrapped 2/3 of the length of my baffle and it quieted it down a good bit w/o affecting the power at all that i could tell. And i'm pretty sensitive to slight changes so i' pretty sure of it. The packing isn't in the way of the exhaust stream so i seems it shouldn't too. But i think what it does mainly is to dampen the pipes from resonating, not so much quieting the exhaust itself. Thats enough to make a good bit of difference tho. Like i said probably 25% quieter, or whatever it is it's enough to make a considerable difference to my ear. Still sets off car alarms tho. :-D

If I keep droppin' my bike I won't need to think about it at all.Speaking of the power gains ....I spent a lot of money!! I must not have read the fine print at thunderbike.I didn't recieve anywhere near the power gains that I thought I would.Did I miss something?28%?I'm not an expert but I don't think so.However, I do like them ,just not completely satisfied,It's okay , Mr. unknown comic(pat) I'm not doing anything to them at this point, still practicing on putting my kickstand down.
