Can the stock turn signals be wired to be marker lights plus turn signals? I may be wrong but I don't think you can...

Vern by marker lights, do you mean having all the indicator lights running at say, half brightness except when they are flashing ? If so, some simple electronics can be installed across the turn signal relay to make this happen. The bypass could be set for any brightness you want as long as there a big enough difference when the lamps flash.
Be aware though, that the indicator plastic lenses were probably designed to run for a few minutes at a time only. I am not sure if they would be able to deal with the heat build up even at half power, if they were on all the time.
Other small issue is, it may not be legal to run the lamps like this, where you live.

I believe the running light option is available with the self cancel flasher from Brent.

The running light option is available with the Signalminder flasher, but involves adding wiring from the Signalminder to both turn signal circuits (included with the flasher, along with instructions that are clear as mud), and the diode modification needs to be made to the turn signal indicator.
Others on this forum have done it; I was going to and have the ability but not the motivation to get into the wiring. One day I might.

Quite early on, I installed Priority Lites by SOS. I had them on two other bikes. They run the rear turn signals at half intensity. I had noticed that often times, especially at night, the relatively small tail light on a motorcycle was easy to miss. I don't have the front turn signals set up as running lights because I installed the MotoLights up front. I believe what I've done may be illegal, but I seriously doubt I'll be stopped for doing something to increase my conspicuity, and if I am, so be it. I had the OEM turn signals for a year and now the Lucas style signals from NB, with no apparent heat problems. I bought the Priority Lites on eBay, but I think Chaparral and others carry them. They are also offered as Priority Lites Plus, but I think those may pulsate or some such thing upon braking.

I'd really like to see the bikes set up like this standard from the factory. Save the stupid reflectors and light up the bike properly.

I recently installed the Signal Minder from Newbonneville.com and am really pleased with the result. It turns the blinkers off at 3 different, selectable durations. When the running light mode is installed, all the turn indicators are on. There is a mode that then allows 4 way flashers or 'escort' mode (left-right alternating flashing). With the brake mode installed, using the brakes holds the countdown toward signal flashing off so they stay blinking if you're at a really long stop light.
The installation involved replacing the signal relay with the Signal Minder, splicing three wires into the tail light harness and removing the turn signal indicator on the instrument panel or replacing it with an LED. I got a direct replacment LED that didn't require any trimming of the base.
Having the running lights helps being seen. Glad I did it.
I added Kuryakin Silver Bullet driving lights which I mounted with newbonnies turn signal relocation kit (no this is not an ad for new bonnie), replaced the bulb with direct replacement LED's with the MR16 base, and connected them to the parking light since the draw is so small. This makes doesn't light up the road but definately makes the bike more recognizable. Sorry for the long post, but glad I did these things and there was really no down side.

Arrgh... I gotta take pics and figure out how to post.
The Silver bullets (large) come with 20 watt bulbs. I found (not on the sellers site, but somewhere, I can retrieve the link) 10 watts with the same MR16 base. I was still getting high-beam flashes from opposing traffic, even aimed like 40 degrees down. I couldn't see the sense of useing them just as high beams, I wanted to be seen. The MR16 based LEDs work pretty well and the low draw is a plus. It means I don't have any road illumination other than the headlight, but that was never the point.
To mount the Silver bullets I got newbonnevillies turnlight relocation kit, which is nothing more than a nicely shaped up bracket that mounts behind the rectifier - simple. Two chrome, 1" (?) spacers from the local HD dealer moved the lights outboard, clear of the other stuff - done.

Vern,Kuryakyn also makes the small SilverBullets in LED format with built in dual filament configuration so that you can wire them as running and blinkers. The lenses are clear,as the LEDs provide the color. They have red for rear applications and amber for the front. They also have a single filament halogen model with interchangable glass lenses and a control module to "make" the lights act as dual filament lights. I use the large SilverBullet halogens in back with the 4710 module,ie,run/turn/brake from just those 2 lights. The Kuryakyns are top quality, and very bright.
