I just received my Haynes manual.( great compliment to my factory manual). In it I noticed a paragraph stating that the T100 is a slightly detuned thruxton motor. Both of course being the 865 motor.
What is the difference? Is it cam timing? Aren't pistons cams and carbs the same? Are the heads the same?

I believe it is compression ratio, cams and of course, jetting.
My factory manual lists the specifics - does yours not ? perhaps yours is pre 865 engines across the board ?

Anyway, why do you ask ?

Cheers

Sorry, off topic but where did you purchase you Haynes manual ????? I taking delivery of a new T100 Saturday and would like something a bit more than the owners manual but not quite ready to purchase a $90.00 Factory manual.

Thanks

Tccox, I went to the Haynes web site. I don't know how to do the cut/paste stuff so I can't give it to you now. I just put Haynes manuals in the box and there it was. It took about 10 days to arrive.

PfM the Haynes show the compression to be the same, 9.5/1. So the cams are different between the two motors?

"In it I noticed a paragraph stating that the T100 is a slightly detuned thruxton motor."

Only in the imagination of the marketeers. There's no difference.

Actually, if you read the specs in the Triumph workshop manual, you will find that they state that the compression ratio, valve sizes, valve lift, valve timing/duration, and carb jets/needles are identical for the Thrux and 865cc T100. The obvious differences are the exhaust headers and silencers, otherwise, despite what Haynes says, the factory specs indicate that the engines are in identical states of tune (although there may be diffrences in the ignition advance curves, but they are not specified in the factory manual or by Haynes).

Having ridden my 865cc T100 several times in the company of a Thrux, there doesn't appear to be any significant difference in the performance. I suspect the differences in published power and torque outputs are as much due to the imagination of Triumph's marketing department as they are due to any real difference.

Have both the Haynes and the Triumph manual.

There is no difference except (as Paas stated) the headers and pipes.

I believe the original Thrux was supposed to have higher compression, but it didn't end up that way in final production.

I think you should be more careful about speaking/posting about what you do not know. Let's not pollute the forum with guessing and BS information, mmmKay?

But if you want it less expensive, here's another option:

The Motor Bookstore

$31.01 total. On the other hand, it's on back order and I've been told it will ship in seven days.
