I left my ignition on a couple of days ago, only discovered it today when I attempted to start it. Problem is, I cannot get the battery to accept a charge. My 6amp charger is only registering 1amp, and after 5 hours the battery only registered 5.9v and I could barely see the ignition light when I turned the key. Is the battery permanently shot, or can it be boosted in some way to take a charge?

Stu,

Same exact thing happened to my friend with an SV650 last week. Had to score a battery. Somehow totally draining the battery seemed to kill a few cells.

Also, not supposed to charge a motorcycle battery more than 1/10th its amp hour rating so max amps to charge a 12 amp hour battery is 1.2 amps. Charging with too high amps will not always kill one but can.

Tad

If it's the original battery (5 years old), you certainly killed it, but it was due for replacement anyway!
