So I set off down the road with my Joe Rocket pants flapping in the breeze and unbeknownst to me, leaving nice chunks of their burnt selves on the pipes !!! Any experience cleaning this off ?

True it will burn itself off. When its burnt to a crisp you can scrape lightly w/ the edge of a credit card for a little extra help. Any leftover residue - a little compound will take care of. Pipes get HOT dont they!!

0000 (4-ought) steel wool and a good aluminum/metal polish - pipes cold. Been there, done that..

I walked out to my bike at the grocery store and discovered that a plastic shopping bag had blown onto the exhaust pipe... glad to see the solutions you received.

If the exhaust is chrome 0000 steel wool will scratch and eventually remove chrome. Ask me how I know.

Ummm...isn't it a little odd for a brand of motorcycle apparel to offer riding pants that melt? Or is it pretty common practice to market items unfit for their intended purpose?

I don't have a lot of experience with these things, but I do have some common sense.

A simiar thing happened to me, but it was one of those blue plastic tarps. I used laquer thinner and a new razor blade to lightly scrape it off.

Don't use steel/synthetic wool. I put my bike cover on a little bit too early and burnt the thing to my header. I removed it using some synthetic wool but it scratched the header. I can polish the scratches out, but I would've preferred not to scratch the chrome.

Try using some solvent (as mentioned) and a little elbow grease. You can try and carefully scrape it off using a plastic scraper of some sort.

All of the synthetic material used for riding gear melts, just the nature of the beast. This is especially true when sliding down the highway at 60MPH, ask me how I know...wait I don't want to remember. If you don;t want something to melt you need to stick with leather so that you melt instead.
