Hello,

I am new to the forum. I am in the process of buying a 07 bonneville and when I was talking to the guy in the service department he said that when I hit 500 miles I should bring it in and have the oil changed and a bunch of other stuff checked on it.

What I would like to know is if I could have them put in amsoil 20w-50 at the first service or should I wait until the next service. I have always liked amsoil for the longest time and considering where I live (in austin, tx), it can get pretty hot here during the summer time. I don't really want to deal with overheating issues (if there are any with this bike).

There is a lot that I don't know about triumphs and anything that you guys (and girls) could teach me about these bikes would be greatly appreciated.

I'll let others who have used it comment on the Amsoil, but the recommended oil is Mobil 4T Racing. It was formulated for the bike, costs about $45 for a four liter container, which will do an oil and filter change with several ounces left over. It's a very high quality oil, so if what you are after is quality and you're not worried about saving a few bucks, I would go with the Mobil 4T. There have been numerous oil threads on here, but usually the original poster is interested in something that they can purchase either cheaper than the Mobil 4T or more conveniently than going to a distant dealer. I've only used the Mobil oil, so I can't really comment on the advantages of others. I did find this in some files I keep on the Bonnie "The factory recommends Mobil 1 Racing T4 fully synthetic API SH or higher and JASO MA, 15W-50 . . . . Another choice is Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50, which is designed for motorcycle requirements and may be more widely available than Mobil 1 Racing 4T 15W-50 . . . . Mobil 1 V-Twin is usually available at Walmart and Autozone." I don't remember and didn't note the source, but it was likely either on this forum or the Delphi NTBF (New Triumph Bonneville Forum). I think the Mobil 1 V-Twin is about $9 per quart.

Welcome to the forum!

I just bought the performance oil change kit from Newbonneville.com. It comes with Motul 5100 (4 quarts) and a K and N oil filter.

My shop in Minneapolis was out of the Mobil 4T and sold me Repson 20/50 synthetic. Don't know if thats better but it shouldn't void the warranty.
