Has anyone else had problems installing these grips on an '06 speedy. I've looked through most of the post regarding these grips & it seems as they are pretty easy to install, so I feel pretty dumb that I'm having so much trouble with the throttle side.
I finally got the grip on over the throttle sleeve after disassembling the entire throttle mechanism and removing the plastic sleave and coating it with liquid soap and water so it would slide on. Now that I've re-assebled the throttle mechanism my throttle doesn't snap back to idle when I release it after giving it some gas. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I tried getting the sleeve back out of the grip but it is so tight, I couldn't get it out. I don't want to have to buy another set of grips and pay out another $70 bucks!!

Thanks for any suggestions!!!
Steve

First, please tell me you removed the entire throttle grip assembly and replaced it with the new Kuryakn grip assembly...

I found the throttle cables may not get routed properly around the inside of the grip assembly. Make sure they're not pinched inside. You may have to play with that.

Most likely is you have to readjust the 2 throttle adjusting screws at the front of the assembly. This may take some fooling with and was probably the hardest part for me. Be patient. Give it lots of slack, then adjust both so there's j-u-s-t a bit of play on & off throttle.

Also, you may have to loosen the entire assembly on the bar and rotate it SLIGHTY forward, or back, to accomodate the cables. There should be a tiny mark on the bar where the housing halves are supposed to match up.

Best of luck, I've had mine on for a couple of weeks and LOVE them.

my son installed a generic set of iso grips and when he installed the throttle side he used glue and it slid on too far and the rubber was rubbing causing his throttle to stick.had to trim some away. well that might be something to check if it isn't the cable sdjust as previohsly mentioned.

Thanks to you both for your quick responses. MJ, you may be onto something I worked the throttle & there seems to be a little rubbing, I might need to get out the razor knife and trip some excess rubber.
Kevin - I bought the grips directly from kuryakyn. Do they sell a seperate grip assembly outside of the approx $70 set of grips?? I used my exisitng throttle sleeve and sanded down the grooves after slicing off the original grips from the throttle side. As a side note the left hand grip goes on with no problems.
Good news is that I'll be out of town this week, so my grip debbacle won't eat into days out on my bike. Bad news is I'll be out of town this week, so I won't be able to ride.

Thanks again!!!!!
Steve

Most of us bought Kury #6236, which is a direct replacement for the factory throttle side. I used hair spray for the left side, it's a little neater install than with the glue.

You buy #6236 or #6240? I understand the universal #6240's are tight and #6236's are the way to go, though my #6236 is a little loose on the throttle side. it works well.
