Negotiating on a 2006 Scrambler:
Bike - 6663.68
Handling / shipping - 780.00 (seems like a BS charge)
DMV fees - 165.50
Tax - 650.82
Accesories - single seat, crossbar, skid plate - 390.00
TOTAL - $8650 out the door
or $8260 minus the accesories
Do I need to haggle more? What have you guys gotten for out the door cost? Any advice would be great....I searched the forums, & found alot of Bonnie OTD prices, but didnt find too much on scrambler OTD prices.
THanks, hopefully I have the bike at the end of the week, or next week.
James

What I did was split the DMV, set-up, and shipping charges and made an offer on that price. I told the guy I was ready to write a check for that price. He took the money - after his ritualistic "chat with the manager". It was, however, in February and the spring buying frenzy had not yet begun.
Good luck!

Not sure where you are in California, but there's a shop in Orange County that specializes in "Out the Door" prices. I actually bought mine in Brea, and got a 2007 T100 for $8900 out the door. I probably could have fought harder for an even lower price, but I really wanted the bike and their customer service was outstanding. Others have mentioned they got theirs for MSRP out the door at other dealers. Try and make their shipping/handling/setup fees go away. In any case, if you love the bike, a hundred dollars one way or the other won't matter.

I bought my 07 Bonnie Black from SoCal Triumph in Brea for $7699 OTD. They matched the price fro OTDcyclesports.com which has a shop in Inglewood and Santa Ana. They always list OTD prices in Cycletrader ads. I went with SoCal because the matched OTDcyclesports, the customer service was great and they just go the bike in. Plus they were able to arrange better financing for me through a Credit Union than OTDcyclesports.

Seems like you should be able to do better, at least get them to waive the handling charge (which is pretty much bs). This is *LAST YEAR'S* model. The base "price of the bike" seems really good to me - $6665 for a bike with a $8000 sticker seems like a nice little deal on last year's model, assuming it's got no miles or close to it. But of course they're making that price look so good by throwing in that silly "handling" charge. If the bike has any miles at all, argue that clearly they already did all the handling for whomever rode the bike for the miles on the odo, and so they should have to swallow that as the cost of using it for demo. If it's got no miles on it (less then 50, let's say), just point out that it seems excessive since the bike's been sitting around for a while, and they should cut it in half.
Of course, it's the end of April and they know they'll be selling the bike soon regardless, so you have less bargaining power. I got mine in February, seems a good time to buy a bike to me. The OTD price I paid was about $300 under MSRP, but my bike was two model years old and had 600 demo miles on it, so it's a little hard to directly compare.
If you want the bike, a few extra bones for the pleasure of riding it now rather than waiting until demand drops off seems a small price to pay, and the dealer knows that. You don't have a lot of power to negotiate.
And you certainly won't feel bad getting the bike, at $8260 out the door, for essentially only $260 over its sticker price.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys. I think I might try to have him knock off another $150 or so if possible. To get the bike down to the msrp. I know the accesories are marked up big time also. Hope a few more chime in with what they paid!
Cheers

I'm in SoCal too, but I got cleaned out - $9900 OTD. Doug Douglas in San Bernardino was the closest dealer to me and at the time I didn't care what the price was. I had the fever and I wanted that bike!
But, they had the bike I wanted in stock and they delivered it to me (100 mi. away) that same day.

I know its really clever stuff to screw the dealer real hard.
But think about it if he doesn't make a reasonable profit after overheads, staff, premises etc why would he be in business, and if it gets to hard he wont be there in the future.
So go ahead and screw him, but don't expect top service or marginal warranty claims you cant have it both ways.
Over to you

Don't worry too much about the dealer Nzbiker, I've worked for a MC dealer and at least at the one I worked for even at MSRP they are making more than enough money, not to mention the people they screw on trade ins. One of the reasons I left.
