This is a general enquiry only.

If you take your bike to a dealer for a specific job and he finds something else wrong, then you would give the OK, and would expect to get charged for it.

But what if the dealer (for instance) shears off one of your bolts or cross threads it, would you be expected to cough up to put that right?

Absolutely not! That should be there problem. Even if he finds something else wrong, they should still call first and ask if you want it repaired, before just doing it, and assume it's ok. What if while changing oil they scratch or dented the tank, should you have to pay for a new tank or paint job too? I don't think so.

No, you should not have to pay for a mistake made by the dealer's mechanic. Furthermore, you should demand that the repairs that are done to correct that mistake are not bodged in any way. The bolts, bolt holes, surrounding areas should be back to the condition they were in when you brought the bike to the dealer. The only exception I could see to this is if you had replaced an OEM bolt with something inferior and they broke that. IMO cross-threading a bolt that fits is a mistake no matter who made the bolt.
