I'm in the middle of adding new exhausts and the Air Box Elimination process. I've completely removed the carbs to get a good view of what I'm doing, and my observations and questions are as follows:

1) Those carb screws are cheap!

2)The mains were easy to remove and change but the pilot jets are way down deep in there! When i finally found a flat head screw driver thin and long enough to fit, that sucker wouldn't come out! Am i doing something wrong? Do I need a special tool to remove pilot jet screws?

How do I remove the pilot jets without stripping them or damaging the carbs?

You don't need a special tool but make sure the screwdriver you're using fits perfectly. I have an electrician's one that fits just right with zero slop. It actually has an insulated sleeve that fits the diameter of the hole just right.

I think the idea behind the "cheap" bowl screws is for them to fail before you do any damage to the soft casting. However, I did replace mine the first time I had the bowl off. Just don't over-tighten when you put it back together.

Bomber...it's not that they're cheap. They are made of brass and are therefore very soft. Use a new screwdriver that fits the hole perfectly. Trim the sides with a file if it's just a little bit too big. Stabilize the carbs with one hand and push and turn with the other. Approach this with controlled strength and you'll be okay.
