My wife bought me an '07 Bonneville for Christmas which I have been enjoying. She had a freind ride up wearing a Santa outift, honking the horn, yelling, Ho, Ho, Ho. Pretty cool!

Having the Bonne now is allowing me to build my '70 CB750 into a Cafe Bike. I love vintage bikes and the Bonne gets me the looks with modern benefits.

Here is the question. Does anyone else have a problem with getting their gas cap off? After about 5 minutes of red faced twisting it comes off.

Welcome. And yes,the LARGE majority of us have had issues with the cap in the beginning. It will get better when the filler neck paint starts to chip off. :-D I put a little smear of gas on the cap gasket and it hasn`t done it since.

It helps me if I push it down. It took me a few times at first, but now it's no big deal.

Extra Motorcycle: dya mean the one outside?
Hi Heirborn, welcome to the site.

I must say, I haven't ever had any kind of problem with my gas cap.
However, I have been having real problems persuading my wife to buy me another motorbike - perhaps we could do a swap...

Thanks the replies.

Nope.....me and this girl are attached at the hip....almost 20 years now. She is my best friend and totally cool and supportive with my hobbies and enjoys riding with me.

Matter of fact, one of the first things she said was "you have to get some better pipes, that's embarrassing". So at the 500 mile check, the stock silencers came off and the TORS went on.

The gas cap Triumph uses sucks. I have a brand new Jenks Monza cap I am going to install shortly. (the dealer is replacing my tank under warranty as there is a flaw in the paint) As soon as the new tank arrives, the Jenks goes on.

You can see it on the Bella Corse web site. It's expensive, but a truely beautiful upgrade.

Yep! Had a problem the first time - it was the darndest thing. No problems since, though. The cap, when replaced, does not need to be cranked down tightly; stop when fully closed.

Had the same problem the first two times I gassed up. Try applying down pressure while turning. It seems to do the trick for me.

Yeah me too. Sometimes it feels like it is frozen on. It is very hard to look cool when you have to angle your body to get a better grip on the thing! I am always so careful about dripping petrol and the dreaded end of the hose scratch on the tank that I am sure we have all seen on used bikes before. This was not meant to be long post but did you know in Australia the petrol station attendant is not allowed to turn on the pump if you are sitting with the hose in your hand....you have to get off your bike to fill up! Interesting...don't ask me how I found out.....sat on my bike for ages looking at the attendant behind the glass do all sorts of signals to try and tell me to get off!

Welcome. Glad your wife supports your biking passion. Mine rides her own bike now and that has made the experience all the more special.

About the gas cap: Just snug it up. Don't twist it until you hear it click, then you're in trouble. A bit of petroleum jelly smeared on it makes it even easier.
