I just bought a 2004 Bonneville and don't know much about this bike (or any motorcycle for that matter) so I hope this isn't a stupid question. As I was parking in my garage today after filling up my tank I noticed a gas dripping from a small black hose under my gear box. Did I overfill the tank or is this hose supposed to be connected to something?

Thanks.

Hi joey5152000-

This is a typical newbie mistake. When you shut off you bike ( especially when just filled) turn off the gas. The fuel system will pressurise when warm, and leak. This should fix your problem and save you some petrol.

Every model of bike is different. Silly questions are what makes this forum interesting I reckon.

My Ducati doesn't have a fuel switch at all. Those crafty Italians have no doubt thought through a design that is automatic for the people. It is one less thing to look after I suppose - more time for coffee. Trouble is there is no reserve, so you have to keep a keen eye on the kms. Running out of petrol in a Ducati is embarrassing.

That's what I like about the Bonne - old fashioned things like a fuel tap and a reserve.

Forgot to way mate, congrats on the purchase. You have bought a classic. Like many I have owned a few bikes. There is nothing like the Triumph to draw you closer to your inner being as well as form long standing relationships with others and very short standing releationships with all the lonely people where do they all come from. Sorry Beatles.

Could also be coming from the tank vent line. With a slightly over full tank it is possible for some fuel to dribble into the vent.
(ask me how I know) :???:
