I bought a bonnie with a Corbin Smuggler on it, incidentally it was custom made for a female rider, so it didn't fit me too well. Instead of selling it, I found out that I can send it back to Corbin and get it reworked back to the original specifications of the smuggler. New leather, new foam, etc.. Basically getting a new seat back, they are just using the pan and keeping the smuggler. My question is:

Has anyone ordered a Corbin seat before? I know they are notoriously hard. They have an option where I can opt for softer foam, but I also understand that once a corbin is broken in to fit your ass, it's like no other seat. I worry that the softer foam might be nice at first, but not benefit me as much as the harder foam, broken in. What would you do? or What did you do? I'm light, 5'10" and 160 lbs, so I'm not heavy enough to break it in quickly.

Are there any other cool custom mods you can do with corbins before they begin construction your seat? Or ideas to tell them
before they start building it?

Also, Anyone have any cool ideas as far as the leather motif that would look good on a black bonnie black? The original one had the ostrich motif in black and looked good, I was thinking about their "mercedes" styling which is just real soft classy leather, or a combo of both, ostrich on the seat pan and "mercedes" on the sides.

I know its all personal preference, but was wondering if anyone was really happy with some ideas that they had..

Thanks!

I have a Corbin gunfighter, which of course isn`t a smuggler.I e-mailed Corbin about modding my seat after purchase and was told basically, sure we can do whatever you want, but you will be charged almost the full price again to do it. I wanted the hump moved forward into the "close" position, which is what you have now. They wanted $200+ and I had to pay the shipping.Needless to say,I made the mod myself for free,by cutting off the front of the seat 1-1/2" and re setting the cover, and moving the front tang back the same amount to fit properly. I`m also going to reshape [thinner and narrower] the tail hump. I went with the standard hard foam and found it pretty comfy right from the start. I`m 170lbs too, give or take. The cover I picked was "turtle" leather. It is VERY slippery and I wouldn`t reccomend it to anybody. The standard pebble grain on my Harley seat was much better grip wise. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Wow.. So was the standard non "close" position really "far"? I just purchased some m bars, and worry now that I'll be leaning forward more now, and hope that I won't be too far. Maybe I should have put the new m bars on before I requested the far position!

Its not that much further back. But with mine moved up that inch and a half,if I slide back fully against the hump,I`m leaned forward with my arms straight out to my stock bars. I`m 5'7". You will probably be just fine with the "standard" seat and M bars
