I rode this one, an ST.
I was surprised how tall in the saddle it was. The ST has a more relaxed handlebar position, kinda like a Bonnie with lower bars. It's suspension is more compliant than the 'S' and comfortable for touring. The 'S' has a more aggressive position.... tall people might feel a bit cramped in the saddle. I found it had too much nose dive under hard braking.
It felt like..... a Bonneville with brand new Avon Azaro's. The parallel twin's power was linear, and a hint of 'pep' as you spun it up closer to red line.
It's said that BMW is trying to attract younger buyers and offer a bike more affordable than the rest of it's line up. Yeah, RIGHT! I find it FAR FROM a "value"...... If I were a rich man, I would buy a naked version and add a complete Remus exhaust system with a long Power Cone. That would be a FUN bike for the twisties, and with the Remus would be putting over 100 hp to the rear wheel. Though the rumored about F800R is not being spoken of by BMW, it is said that it will be putting out 90 hp. I'm anxious to see what is being said about it's handling characteristics. The criticism so far seems to be more about the transmission than anything else.
