Anyone ridden the new BMW F800 S or ST ?
I saw a Blue ST on the street & it looked good.
I currently ride a modified 2003 T-100 ( 6gal. tank, 904 cc kit, belt drive, etc.). This Beemer and the new Triumph Tiger are on my short list for test rides.
Any one ridden this beast?

Might want to check

BMW Sport Touring

Mixed comments from current BMW riders. For the price once you do add on's I would consider a Yamaha FJR or Tiger.

Friend of mine road F800ST and loves it. She currently ridea BMW F650GS but want to move up to larger bike.

I rode this one, an ST.

I was surprised how tall in the saddle it was. The ST has a more relaxed handlebar position, kinda like a Bonnie with lower bars. It's suspension is more compliant than the 'S' and comfortable for touring. The 'S' has a more aggressive position.... tall people might feel a bit cramped in the saddle. I found it had too much nose dive under hard braking.

It felt like..... a Bonneville with brand new Avon Azaro's. The parallel twin's power was linear, and a hint of 'pep' as you spun it up closer to red line.

It's said that BMW is trying to attract younger buyers and offer a bike more affordable than the rest of it's line up. Yeah, RIGHT! I find it FAR FROM a "value"...... If I were a rich man, I would buy a naked version and add a complete Remus exhaust system with a long Power Cone. That would be a FUN bike for the twisties, and with the Remus would be putting over 100 hp to the rear wheel. Though the rumored about F800R is not being spoken of by BMW, it is said that it will be putting out 90 hp. I'm anxious to see what is being said about it's handling characteristics. The criticism so far seems to be more about the transmission than anything else.

i'm waiting on the GS version. reportedly the same weight as the f650, but larger displacement twin instead of the thumper. a mini r1200gs if you will.

If they do that (which is heavily rumored) it will decimate the sales of both the F650 and the R1200GS. I will buy one.

I tried the tiger WOW. Exciting bike. Not for short guys though. Well balanced excells at everything. Even the tiny wind screen is effective and did not buffett.

fred, i'm pretty sure the f650 is on the way out anyway. with the 800 twin in the line-up and the new range of x650 thumpers, the f650 seems primed for retirement. last i heard the 800gs was only held up due to factory limitations, but is still in the works. ewan and charlie are rumored to be using them for "Long Way Down."

there will always be beefcakes who want the r1200gs, like hummers i suppose.

Yeah, my '07 F650GS may be the last of the breed. I am really liking it, by the way. For the first time, I am actually debating whether to ride the Scrambler or the 'other' bike on a daily basis.
