I've heard many good things about the TBS needles that they have a good taper and that they seem to be the thing , but not exactly an even one (taper) wheras the thruxton has a markedly tapred needle. Can anyone find any difference performance -wise between the two. SMK :hammer:

I went for the Dynojet needles, they seem to have a more agressive taper, and also have the benefit of 6 height settings for tuning.

Bluespoke ,did the dyno-jets come in the kit? I see that you freaked your air on your bike;raised your mains by 25 pts. , raised your pilot jets bt 2 pts. Is there a remarkable difference in the way the bike reacts-throttle pos.-midrange with the dyno needles ,freak and the jets? Did you have the jets that you needed according to a jet calculator or did you have to do some jet swapping? Thanks for the info-I'll look into it. :hammer:

blaster, the Dynojet kit came with 4 sets of jets, but the largest ones were 135 equivalent (they use their own numbers) so I got some after market 145's. The motor is like a beast now, instead of getting breathless, and dying from 3500 on, she goes harder, and harder, all the way to the limiter. I was shocked at the difference. Very rideable, and smooth. Hope this helps.

Yeah, theres a big difference. The length and taper are the 2 variables. The thruxtons are shorter therefore they deliver fuel with a shorter throw of the throttle. The TBS seem to be a bit thinner on the taper, but thats at the end and because they are considerably longer they never get as high up into the jet as the thruxtons do.

What i found was that with 3 shims thew TBS were just slightly less rich than the thruxtons which were TOO rich in my bike even with no shims and a uni filter, thunderbike pipes, 130 mains and drilled airbox. The TBS however were just short of being too rich with 3 shims and performed very similar to the thruxtons with no shims. The differences were as follows..

thruxtons seemed to hav a very slight advantage when coming from a dead stop while winding her up.

the TBS w/3 shims had about the same amount of advantage in a mid range roll on as the Thruxtons did from a dead stop. Being the midrange roll on was more important to me i went with the TBS

And lastly, and another reason i went witrh the TBS w/3 shims is that the thruxtons were just a bit too rich and caused the bike to ***** out badly at the limiter much worse than the TBS. The bike would die and sometimes not start firing again till i was at a dead stop and had to restart it.

I would recommend TBS and shim as much as you can w/o going too rich, which will of course depend on your setup/mods. That is, unless you use an airbox removal kit like the Freak in which case the thruxtons may be just fine. Anyways, thats been my experience with them. YMMV.

Thanks to both of you guys , If you were here I'd by ya' A beer. These days as I approach the half-century age (3 more years) If I knew then what I know now , I'd probably have a whole lot of everything.(A lot of wine, women and song.$$$) Anyway these are the answers(start-up,Midrange) that I've been searching for , as I"m not as hasty as I was when I was 18, Autos maybe;but not motorcycles because _now_ I_ see_ all the time, preparation and let downs. I guess you could call it divine-dissatisfaction. Daz on a light note : I owe you an apology. I replied on a post of yours (my dillema) that was totally retarded. I  see that there's a lot of thought and effort into these bikes as I can read well.(one could say that I was on a cloud with the TB pipes) It doesn't end there, does it......Thanks a million ,you guys ,I will finally come to a decision on this bike. Hey, spoke :hows the weather from the land down-under! :hammer: daz - beautiful bike. :hammer:

blastr..... it's always good ridin' down here, mate. Put about 600-800kms a week on the Speedy. Coming into winter right now, thats about 18o C overnight, and 27oC daytime. Gets down to about 8oC overnight dead of winter, so we ride all year here. Cheers.

I think I see what Daz was telling me through his experience with the needle thing.(THROTTLE POSITION)Needle dia. from 1/16 to a little over 1/2 (with it's peak at 1/4 throttle);Needle clip position or shims 1/4 to 3/4 throttle (with it's peak at a little less than 1/2 throttle);Needle taper1/4 to almost WOT(with it's peak at a little over 1/2 throttle.){Jenks Bolts Effect on fuel flow .vs. Throttle opening chart} Never really stood out until I read his reply post. Again of course this all hinges on modifications as he said. Thanks. :hammer:
