Loxpump removed the "crossover pipe" on the downpipes - is that the one that join the downpipes at the bottom? I don't get it, as the pipes have a built in offshoot that joins up.
Please enlighten me - also what's the advantage?

That is the crossover. There is an advantage, to leaving this intact, with most pipes. However, there are silencers which are designed to resonate correctly, sans crossover.
There is only one pipe that connected the two headers together an that is the one just past the lower bend when the pipe goes horizontal. It bends up and crosses over the bottom frame rails and are clamped together.
