That's gonna look great with the bottom flush and ground down. Are you talking about a flush filler compartment, like on CB550F's? I had a '76 with that, but I got a CB500 because I liked the screw on cap. That's gonna be a challenge.

Thanks Jason. I`m thinking something like this. There`s an article in the new Horse chopper mag that has a weld in version how-to.
gas cap

Thats awesome rod-man. I have pondered this same thing, I do not have a TIG welder and kinda fear tackling it with my MIG. Or maybe it is my skill (lack of) I am scared of.
The flush filler would be kickin but not too "period correct" if one were striving to retain that old school look. Oh yeah, thats not you.........so yeah....flush cap would be awesome.

did you gas weld that? I mean, I know you did...but danm that's good. I mean....I knew you were good...but I just had to say; "you're good!"
If I ever ride up your way you think you could show me the way around a gas torch? My welding experience is limited to a MIG welder and a stick welder. One day I'll have enough scratch to fund a TIG setup but I want a gas setup too, mostly for the oxy-ace torch.
Nice work. :upthumb:

Vert,my little wire feed on the lowest setting would have gone thru that paper thin "steel" like Alien blood on the Nostromo. :-D An Airco #1 tip at 4psi did the trick today.
Jeff,any time !

thanks, and you're right, my MIG welder eats gas tanks like they're melted hershey bars too.
just a little 'whoosh' sound and there's a big hole where steel used to be. Luckily I figured that out on a cheap old dented sportster repop tank. :-D

Yeah I just learned to weld with MarkRam last week on his awesome MIG when we made my air box. It looks really good, but your tank mod looks like you have a lot more skill than I have. I can't wait to see the finished product.
