I gotta start with the obvious

I know a highly sophisticated device that tracks satellites for navigation seems to fly in the face of all the makes the Bonnie the modern incarnation of motorcycling at it's finest

the purity and simplicity of an aircooled twin and little more between you and the road than a internally combusted wing

I know it is wrong

to add electrical doo dads to this is simply wrong

and I really don't care
I have had GPS on other bikes and I simply want it back

but I want to do it as discreetly as possible.

I don't want to use it in a tank bag because I don't want to use it in a tank bag

I want to find a way top preserve as much of this as possible

looking at the road roll under you with this view is a medium rare ribeye steak from Sullivan's, a smile from a pretty blond, a premium cigar lit from a stick pulled from a campfire, good bourbon poured neat into a heavy bottomed glass, this view is just one of the finer things in life

so how can an idiot like me find his way home without screwing this view

I am thinking some kind of ram mount and saving for a Zumo as it looks about the least like a gadget of all the GPS unit's out there

I am trying o avoid mounting anything to the bars, maybe a setm mount or something

is anyone else running a GPS and if so how are you mounting that bad dog

I don't want to run audio through it, no MP3's set up (I use an Ipod and ear phones if I want to ride with Jimi)

I am looking for an easy off so if I am just taking a Sunday ride I let myself be talked into believing I really am Steve McQueen and all I need is a fast machine

(and you know, maybe directions home sometimes)

As a recent Scrambler owner, I too felt it was wrong and hesitated putting my Ram mount on the handlebars...but I did it anyway! Just for the times I take the roads less traveled. I use a Garmin 60CS and remove all but the ball mount when I don't want the clutter. Maybe I can get a pic later today if you would like to check it out.

Well, well mutineer, it seems we are running on parallel tracks. I am buying a Zumo 450 or 550 (not sure if I need the Bluetooth doo-dads on the 550 or not). I considered mounting it on a Touratech 1/2" crossbar with a locking cradle, but I also run risers, so I think the idiot lights would be blocked. I'm enough of an idiot that I still need those, so I may wind up just mounting it on the left bar.

Going with some sort of quick-release fabricated stem mount might be your best bet.

D9 has designed the "cleanest" means of mounting a GPS in my opinion. All that is needed is a single RAM Mount arm because he has incorporated the RAM ball into a replacement stem nut.

Here's a picture of an early prototype on my bike.

...and here's one of a Veypor mounted which is similar in size to the Garmin Zumo you're looking at.

...and another view.

(Go to my photo album (below) for larger, more detailed images.)

mutineer,

PM sent

As ggrat said, that's an early prototype in the pics, still in beta testing, gg is putting it through some paces & places... production piece will be trick & slick & will allow fitment of other accessories as well, should be ready late summer/early fall if all goes well...

Cheers,

D9

Zumo 550. You will NOT be disappointed.

I had it on the Thrux temporarily until I moved it to my Strom.

Unforunately this is the only pic i have where you can see it...
