In anticipation of my new light brackets, I am trying to clean up the clutter that is the Bonnie front end. I snuck the horn in under the tank. I bolted it to a hole left from the AI removal with a bolt that I kept.

You can't see it with the tank on, and the sound has not really been affected much, since it sounded like scooter horn anyways. I really only use the horn for women if my pipes don't do it. If I am in a situation where I would need a loud horn, I am gonna need evasive maneuvers, not a horn to announce my date with the asphalt.

Next up is moving the voltage regulator to where the horn used to be, an idea I stole from Rodburner. I am a little worried about having issues with all of the wires coming out of the light, but I will trudge onward.

PS, I hated the red spark plug heads, so I wrapped the wires in in bags and zapped them with bbq paint.

I hated the NGK red ends and blasted them with BQ paint too.

mounted my horn in the same place. Be aware that if there ia any metallic content in the paint watch for furure misfires from the wires using a easy track to ground. It is best not to
paint elecyrical items. Ed

/quote]T,you will 99.99% surely have to route the wires outside the headlight.Mounted in the horn location, the rectifier will be in a fixed location. If the wiring stayed in the headlight,I think it would put huge stress on the wires and the headlight. I`m going to re-relocate mine to an even more remote location, probably lower or near the airbox when I move on to that project. BTW,good job with the horn.I don`t use mine for chicks anymore,so I relocated it to a TidyCat container in my garage. :-D

You know, I knew people had put their horns under the tank, but I never really appreciate HOW they'd done it. Thanks for posting this. Sometimes the most obvious mods need to be chronicled.

After leaving my horn hanging free in my fairing for about a year, I recently did basically the same thing you did. However, because I'd already removed the little tab on the horn, I had to make a new one. Here it is made out of plexiglass:

We'll see how it holds up over time.

I have a Fiamm Roadblaster mounted in this manner under the tank. It actually has a "horn" shape to it, I pointed that end out from under the front of the tank, just between the spark plug wires as the exit the coil.

Here's a picture of the horn:

It's louder than stock (but not by much), and with the open end pointing out it doesn't seem to be muffled too much.

I bought mine at the local auto parts store for about $12-15.

Nice one TCL.

Is that just the original horn bracket?

Yes, original bracket. I moved the key to the ride side cover and put the regulator where the horn was. I'll post pics when I put it back together tomorrow.
