Yes, have a 06 Patrol 2wd, slow as but fun offroad. Wating for my friend and his Gearup to go for a day of offroading in the desert today.
Much better built that the ones a few years ago. Great for what they were designed for "military applications." Simple to work on, come with great tool kit and many extras.

Very cool! Nice post.
I liked the 11 states in 11 days video. As a video photographer and editor by trade I can tell you, these guys did a great job.

Well...I was going to get a Scrambler here in the next few months...but I think the Gear-Up is exactly what I am looking for!! I've seen them around in magazines and on-line...but this has sealed the deal!!! I live just 45 miles from the Cascades (where some of those movies were shot)...I stoked!!!!

Wow, that much intrest in the Ural's. Thats great maybe we should start a Triumph/Ural owner's club.
Just remember the sidehack Ural is not a superslab bike. Its most happy on secondary roads and trails. Purrs along all day at 50-55mph. If you can live with that you"ll love this machine.
Your Triumph is for doing the ton!!!
Ivar, what model/year did you get?
Andy

How are they for stretches where you have to do superslab for a little while? I imagine they'd be struggling to do 65, so it would be a little scary perhaps, but by "not a superslab bike" do you mean "don't ever take it on an interstate", or do you just mean, "don't plan to do an interstate ride"?
After buying the Bonneville, I'm sure it'll be a decade before I can get the wife to allow me to buy another bike; but when the time comes, I want a hack - and it seems like Urals are the only real choice for a hack, since they're purpose-built for it. But I already have one bike that essentially can't do the interstate - ten miles on the superslab is about it for the Stella - struggling to keep an indicated 65, and that's *after* the work I've done. And I find that the difference between the Bonneville (preference for non-interstate, but interstate is fine) and the Stella (really must not do more than a few miles on the interstate) is the difference between a fun machine for spontaneous rides, and a machine that requires careful ride planning even for a thirty-mile ride.
So just *how* non-superslab-worthy are they?

Thanks for the clips, Ivar. It is interesting to see these machines ridden by hack riders willing to put them through their paces. These are tough old machines, much like the WW2 era BMW two wheel drive side hacks.
BMW R75 Military from 1943
Ural had a nice exhibit at the Cycle World Show in Cleveland back in January. I don't think they had anything but hacks on the floor.

I can't speak for the new Ural 750's, which I understand have electric start and travel at acceptable highway speeds. I owned a 97 Ural Tourist. It was happiest at 40-45 mph. some of the castings weren't up to BMW airhead standards (Ural was patterned after those engines). It needed pretty constant looking after, regular maintenance was a must.
But it was a blast on country roads. It was only one wheel drive, but I was still able to do some back-yard baja. Gravel? No problem. Snowy roads? no problem.
If I could have one of everything, I would definitely get one of those military looking two wheel drives. Accessories-shovel, gas can, machine gun and rocket launcher.
