I am looking into purchasing a Thruxton as a second bike (for the wife and...ahem...me )and want to know what I'm getting into. Friend has an '06 with 4000 miles and it leaks oil near the sight glass ( It really IS English!), but otherwise he loves it. I like the twin note and vintage look a lot, the narrowness and it seemed very nimble in the twisties.

There seems to be an awful lot of posts regarding mechanical issues here, please don't be offended, but this is compared to the sport forum where the hot topics are regarding wheelies, fender eliminator kits, and low mount exhausts.

Any reason to hesitate on pulling the trigger?

No there isnt one, of the few post's I've read where maybe a handful of people are experiencing minor issue's...there are many many more whom are having no issue's.

Great bikes...

?? I have never read of the newer Triumph Twins leaking.

Maybe there are a few out there that I have not read about, but IMHO....these twins are rock solid & tight. Get one!!

one of the reasons you will see a lot of posts about mechanical issues is because many if not most people here work on their own bikes.my experience of many sports bike riders is they don't.they seem to be more concerned with bling rather than bang IMO :-D

Ok good, i'm not suggesting they all leak, maybe his is the exception to the rule.

Part of the appeal is being able to work on it myself, no fuel injection, everything where you can see it and get at it, etc.

thanks and good riding

Most of our problems are self inflicted. You don't HAVE to be constantly messing with the bike. Mine is bone stock; I do my own maintenance. I have no problems yet at 6400 miles and don't expect any unusual problems. Bikes take more maintenance and TLC than cages. The modern Triumph vertical twins seem pretty much bulletproof - if you leave them alone. If you mess with them then just realize that it might take a few tries to sort out your "improvements."

Mine takes everything I throw at her! Trust me, they are solid bikes. I don't even have as much as an exhaust leak and I'm pushing a 30hp shot of nitrous through her with an internally stock 790.

These bikes come with a two year warranty with no limit on miles. Pretty nice.
