hey guys, the odometer on my bike seems to be counting up way faster than it should

i went down my block and it read like a mile and half when i know its not even close to that

i have a scrambler, but if anyone has had this problem on a bonnie or any other triumph can you let me know what you did to fix it

ill bring it to the dealer if i have to but id like to avoid that

thanks

Is you speedo also showing improbable speeds? The speedo and the odo are both driven from the speedo gear, so if one's off the other one probably is too.

well it seems to be a little be slower than im going, but i dont think its off enough to make the odometer read out like that, and i would think that the speedo would have to be going faster to make the odometer go up faster than it should

the odometer and the trip go up equaly

it just seems weird to me

My odometer works fine, but my trip meter will add 100 miles sometimes if I am not careful to spin it around a couple of times when I reset it.

yeah i heard the trips can be weird some times, im waiting till the gas runs out before i reset it. the bike is new and im still breaking it in so ive just been taking it easy around the back streets

it seems like for every quater mile the bike reads out a mile, im going to take my car out and see if can nail down how far off it is

It's possible you have a KPH speedo core with an MPH face plate or somehow it was accidentally assembled with a KPH gear set. The speed would look the same but the odometer would go up 1.6 times faster.
They are stamped units so you cannot change the gearing and you have to replace the whole core.
Measure out and ride a known distance and see what you get.
