About 3 months ago I cut up my airbox and installed K & N pods, the bike was taken to a dyno testing station and the carbs were set up for me accordingly.
The bike has been running perfectly since until recently, when starting from cold, the engine idles as it usually does, but once given some throttle (up to 1/4) there is alot of hesitation, when I pulled off, the engine got even rougher, backfired and then was absolutely perfect!
It has been alot colder than this since I had the work done and the engine has had no problem warming up (eventually!)
This has happened twice now in the last week, and although I am not mechanically minded I do know the basics.
My imediate theory is that the filters might have captured some moisture or other bits of crud and took time to work its way through the system.
As I said before, after a backfire the engine goes back to normal, I would appreciate some help!

Does it clear up if you crack the throttle to WFO and only occurs at slight or partial throttle?

if it takes a long time to warm up then you are lean at idle. Do you have a D-shaped adjustment tool? That's what you'll need to richen the idle mixture. Get a D-tool and unscrew the idle mixture screws about a 1/4-1/2 turn.

It only occurs at very partial throttle, when fully open it is fine, as far as I believe, although the actual idle is perfectly fine, it is just when a tiny bit of throttle is given.
It has only happened twice though, and the both incidents were not one after the other.
I had a 50 mile ride recently (the day after the first incident) and the engine appeared to be as sweet as a nut!
Im not sure if it is the length it takes to warm up, because it is doesnt take any longer for the idle to not require the choke than previously.
It seems as though she is sucking on a sour lemon and then decides to spit it out the other end!
It is the thottle between idle and 1/4 that seems to be the problem. I will play about with the idle screw, but I have a niggling feeling it might be something else.

Is it just on one side? It may be some crud is clogging your pilot jet...

Not as far as I know, although before the first incident I was cleaning the bike with some spray, and the second time, I forgot to cover the poor girl up, and in the morning there was heavy fog, I guess pod filters are more exposed to bits and pieces, and me being a bit naive, probably didnt take much notice of it!

sounds like an idle mixture problem like I said earlier. The idle will be fine, but the pilot jet and idle mixture screw operate in the first 1/8 of the throttle opening.
Get a D tool and turn the screw out 1/4 - 1/2 turn.

Further to Sweat's response you may want to search around for a CVK carb tuning guide. Different carb components kick in at different RPM's and if you have the guide you can narrrow the possibilities for which bits are causing the problem when.
I would bet a dollar that Sweat is right but I found it useful to get the whole picture before I started playing around with stuff.
I got the Jenks Bolts tuning guide from someone on this site for free but you can order it for about $5 as well. I think Jenks is actually UK based.

After reading it, I think hes right too! For now I have upped the idle (up to 1100-1200 instead of the current 900) to give it a bit of fuel lower down as a stop gap, until I can purchase a d tool in the next couple of days to turn those screws out.
Because the bonnie is my sole form of transport I am always wary of tinkering with the poor thing incase I mess something up!
I am an extreme beginner so forgive me if I am talkin *****.
