Im getting my new 07 Bonnie black in a few days and want to know how important is the taco?, im getting a standard bonnie and thinking about adding it, but it could blow budget so i would appreciate any feed back on the real uses of it, many opinions needed!

the single dial look is simple and plain - it does complement the bike's understated elegance. The dual tacho in my view is an added extra that from a rider's perspective is useful information to read and know. I tend to ride more to the rev counter than to the speedo.
My Ducati only has a speedo and on the rare occasions now when I ride her, I am feeling somewhat underinformed as to the performance of the engine. So to cur ethis I get back on the Boonie and my smile returns.
It's an individual thing, if the budget is a concern then TORs would be a better and more enjoyable option to go for. My tacho was an extra $484 Aussie dollars installed. I want to now paint the mounting bracket black so that it blends in better.
I don't think I helped. I hope you enjoy your new bike as much as me.

i went the staintunes over a bunch of add ons including tacho. Couldnt be happier. Extra squirt and growl. $600 seems a little steep for the tacho though. the accessories price sheet the dealer gave me when bought my bonneville (in brisbane) not that long ago lists the tacho conversion as $484.25 fitted, like ntr indicated.
for my riding at this stage (town20% highway70% twisties10% and not pushing it to the limits) a tacho would be largely academic information as ive seemed to have got the feel of the bonnie and its rev/gear/speed needs BUT there'd be far better informed contributors on this forum than mine who could probably give a bunch of really good reasons why a tacho is perhaps more useful than ive indicated or even thought of.
but, doing 900km a week on the bike the way i see it, the more im looking at the instruments, the less im looking at the road = the greater the chances of coming a cropper. Brisbane traffic (including out in the sticks) these days demands all the attention you can give it.
good luck with it all - might see you on a rat run around brisvegas and beyond sometime.

you can live w/o the tach, as long as you "listen" to the engine, e.g., you'll learn to know when you've passed the peak torque in any one gear, etc, etc.
save your money.
ride on

No way I'd pay 600 for a tach. A member on here (D9) made a really cool bracket for smaller after market gauges, both tach and speedo. If he'll make you a bracket you can get the gauges and bracket for under 100 bucks. I'd go that route. Try doing a search along the lines of smaller gauge bracket.
If you haven't seen the thread further down called "Dual tacho bracket for Bonneville Black" you can see D9's work.

I love the tach and watch it all the time but that's just because I'm an obsessive kinda guy.
... but $600? Probably not that obsessive.
